I have recently started program through the mail at the New York Institute of Photography. I was wondering if anyone has been through the program and what you liked or disliked about the way it is setup.

on July 19, 2007 Cferrin...we will have to compare notes some day. I am also 1/2 way through the course. I have learned a lot mostly when it comes to exposure and lighting (also about tricks of the trade). Let me know how it goes for you |

on July 19, 2007 I am halfway through the course right now, and so far I've really loved it. I agree, the material IS ancient, though most of it is timeless and is applicable whether working in film or digital. (They do now have a digital course offering, but I "think" it is more digital darkroom. It came out after I started the traditional course.) For me, this course has been the most comprehensive and easily understandable way to learn the fundamentals of photography. One thing I think that they should change is to remove one of the optional sections (nude photography anyone?) and replace it with a section on stock photography, but that's just me :)
Another thing, if you don't sign up right away, they will offer you discounts. The original price was $998 and they discounted it down to $650. I've heard this is standard practice. |

on July 17, 2007 So Far...the information has been very useful although the material is very old. I do not think they have updated it from the 80's. I would like to have seen a lot more with digital photography and the digital darkroom. Only time will tell to see if I have improved as a photographer!!! |

on July 17, 2007 I took this coarse a long time ago and would highly reccomend it. I'm sure it has evolved quite a bit by now and likely has only improved with the digital age. |
