Credits for blogging - good or bad?     posted on 31st of july, 2007

All of us got the message, I hope; we are getting one free credit for a blog post. This sounds great, of course, but is it good for everyone?

I thought I'd buy some nice image from an other photographer and then I got the idea of buying one of my own. This worked, to my surprise and I also recieved payment. Is this really good, I asked myself. Should I be able to earn money just by writing some scraps of my thoughts here? What if I wrote a hundred blog posts a day (you can imagine the contents of the posts!) just for buying my own images?

I do not believe it is a good idea, then. The thought of writing about nothing just for the money is tempting...

And I should also ask myself if THIS blog post is pointless...

how will we know that a blog has been approved!

I'm wondering, too. I bloged ;-) also on the 23th of August, my blog is online, and was even commented, but I still haven't got any credit for it :'(
- so maybe I just didn't understand the rules - or ...?

I think blogs will boost sales on a very higher scales if buyers are also participating here right now.

The main purpose of the blog feature was to improve communication among community members. It was intended at covering a wider variety of subjects than just photography. It provided some people with the opportunity of sharing their experience in photographing techniques while for others it proved an opportunity to write about their lives, ask funny questions, talk about their interests and private life. Not all articles get approved although we tend to be indulgent about articles with one sentence saying hello to the community. We cannot promise that the free credit will last forever. I think we are very happy that there are articles which really enhance better communication and allow people to get to know each other. I read the other day articles about funny names and bad habits, which were I guess, very engaging and entertaining - I left comments.
And I am sure that there are very many around who do not write for the free credit but just for the sake of sharing with others what they feel or what they know.
My advise is don't write for credits, write for art's sake :) :P. Blog for blog's sake.

I believe it was intended to get both photographers and designers to talk about the images here on Dreamstime, and to write useful articles about those images and techniques to create them. The credits are just a perk that we can use any way we want. Designers can earn free credits to purchase images. What the creators do is up to them, I guess. I've thought about using my credits to purchase images from other designers for my own personal projects, or as backgrounds for my computer desktop. There are a lot of great illustrations on the database that would make wonderful desktop backgrounds!

Was it intended for us to be able to buy our own photos?

I've noticed that I often receive more than one credit when I've only written one blog. Do we get credits for comments, too? Anyone know?
Comment by Jcgt85 on August 19, 2007
Um, maybe for some people this isn't a good thing, but for other ones it is. For example, if someone need an image for homework or something, and just need the small one, then this would be useful for him, 'cause he just need 1 credit, right?, and not the whole package, 'cause he's not gonna use any more...
That's my point of view about this new thing

I do not care. I write to share some thoughts with other people here. If someone find it useful, I'm happy. I do not write for credits or comments.

I think this feature is rather interesting. First, we can communicate with each other, ask questions, read useful information. Second, we can buy the photos we like, thus helping our favourite photographers. There are photos I would like to have in my collection. I'd print them and hung on the wall at home. Why not? I believe, it's wonderful!

I think it's a neat idea to receive credits for writing approved and informative blogs. It's not a bad perk. =-) What I'm going to do with mine, I'm not sure yet.
I do love the new blog feature, though. It lets us get a glimpse into the minds of other contributors and designers. We can share our knowledge and our ideas in one central place. Personally, I enjoy blog posts better than forums. I find forums harder to follow, as people tend to post just anything anywhere they wish.

Wrote my blog yesterday but did not get a credit for it. Also can't find anything on DT explaining this.
Enlighten me please (by personal message if possible)

Writing 100 approved blogs a day? That will give you so much work that you better sollicitate with a newspaper or magazine if you mage to pull that of. You know weare talking about 100 sensefull things to say a dayhe.
I'm glad I find one ;-)
Comment by Maigi on August 11, 2007
I think that blogging feature is great. I don't care if I get additional credit for it or not. Though it's a lovely quirk [I'm not sure if it's a right word, but I meant something sweet and unexpected :)].

Concerning the "what to blog about?" question, here's some info: http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_7888
Comment by Missb on August 01, 2007
Maybe Dreamstime should have specified the reason for blogging and what the blog should be about. I understand that a blogpost should be useful and informative but what else?
Comment by Achilles on August 01, 2007
No, we don't plan to stop it based on this. We will eventually stop it, but only once this incentive cannot be supported or is no longer needed. It is true that it would be nicer to download someone else's photographs, especially as you get a license, you don't know when you could use it...
Don't think that anything will do. The articles are reviewed and you get the credit only if your creativity gets approved by the editor. Don't write nonsense, it can get worse than just losing a credit.
Comment by Tonygers on August 01, 2007
Maybe your right about the pointless part as i started my own blog and got NO credits??? What's that all about!

The rules state that every article you publish you get 1 credit for it! So where is my 1 credit for my 1 article?
Comment by Tonygers on July 31, 2007
WOW! Is that true? I think you'll find that support will probably stop this once they find out about it? I'm tempted to start my own blog now! ;-)
