Where to start with illustrations!     posted on 11th of august, 2007

There seems to be two types of people on Dreamstime illustrators and photographers. Obviously there are some cross over between the two with some photographers having illustrations and visa versa but it is quite rare that someone can do both well.

Whats my point, well I get a e-mail once in a while from a photographers asking how I created and image or how to begin illustrating, so I thought I would offer a few hand tips to all of you photographers wanting to steel my business! (LOL)

My first tip is equally true to photoshop as it is to illustrator, learn how to use the pen tool. Its is so handy for creating irregular shapes, clipping masks and floral brush paths.

Simple things to remember:-

- single clicks with the mouse will create an object with straight lines (point to point)...

Thanks for the tips and advice. I have recently become interested in vectors and need all the help I can get. Don't worry - I'll never reach your level of expertise - but I'll try! - posted by Minpin on August 13, 2007

How did you come about your name?

Mine is quite and straight forward one - Nicemonkey comes from my daughter, I have always called her monkey....when I was trying to come up with a name she suggested adding the nice bit to the front and thus Nicemonkey was born.

Whats your story?

My name comes from a comicbook character. His name is Lobo, and he is an interegalactic hitman who destroyed his home planet in order to be unique.. He often uses "frag!" or "fragger!" as either a replacement for the work kill or killer, and he also uses it as a curse word. When I first started using a 1200 baud modem, and calling local BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems), I wanted a handle that showed some attitude. As all the shooter games started to adopt the term, I found it harder and harder to sign on boads without having to choose fragger49023482095 so I eventually added another part of the Lobo mythos, which is that he often refers to himself as "The Main Man" and made it MainFragger . So far, there is just some artist in Europe with that handle, and I show up a lot more on internet searches than he does, so I've kept it.. - posted by Mainfragger on October 01, 2007
Minpin, my most loyal and devoted friend, my 15-year old red Miniature pinscher. His predecessor was Cayenne so, naturally, he was given the name of Pepper. What a joy - if only we could all live up to the devotion and love of our 4-legged companions! - posted by Minpin on September 04, 2007
My name TheFinalMiracle was actually a term used by the people whom I healed or counselled over the years. They were using it without my knowledge earlier. Its hard to digest such a name. - posted by Thefinalmiracle on August 26, 2007

Inspiration - where and how?     posted on 20th of august, 2007

Quite a simple one but something that can really stump the best of us. Where do you get your inspiration from?

I will start the ball rolling, I find sport really shakes the cobwebs loose, there is nothing better than going out for a run to get the old gray matter ticking over and adverts on the TV.

Obviously you get the best inspiration just as you are gong to sleep but when you wake up...its gone! I am sure my sales would be much higher if some of my thoughts that I had just as I am drifting off made it to the computer!

How about you...

Life in general is my inspiration the would around me is beautiful, and with 8 grandchildren we are always on the go. never a dull moment. - posted by Psalm113v9 on August 20, 2007
To keep track of my inspirations before they leave me, I always carry pen and paper. If I don't have that, then there is my cell phone where I can leave text messages to myself. Sticky notes are great, too. I go through a LOT of sticky notes! - posted by Kenneystudios on August 20, 2007

How long do you spend?     posted on 21st of august, 2007

How long do you spend with your photos in photoshop tweaking and correcting them?

If a photograph isn't working do you chuck it or put it to one side and go back to it later?

How ordered is your work flow?

If I'm having difficulty with something, I have to walk away from it. Most times, I will come back later that day when my chi is flowing better -- when my fingers and Photoshop and my mind are actually working right! Sometimes I have to leave an uncooperative image alone for days or weeks before I get the right inspiration. I have several images that have actually been sitting on my harddrive untouched for months because I haven't had the right flow to deal with them. Some subjects I just have to be in the right mood to work with. ;) - posted by Kenneystudios on August 21, 2007

What are you going to spend your millions on?     posted on 29th of august, 2007

When your stock portfolio finally takes off what are you going to spend your millions on?

I have always wanted to buy some woods/meadow area and create a mountain bike circuit for the local youth....and maybe create an environmentally friendly house for myself.

Where are you going to spend your millions....

Who has the most credits from blogs?     posted on 30th of august, 2007

Who has earned the most credits from blogs so far?

I have only posted a few blogs and raised 16 credits so far.

I really like the idea of giving away credits, that way I can download some image from other members that I can aspire to creating one day...maybe

You got 16 credits due to an error on the first blogs. A few users received more credits. We didn't remove them as a nice gesture for the "pioneers". - posted by Achilles on August 30, 2007
