Astrology and photography     posted on 1st of january, 2008

Astrology is very complex – it works with Sun, Moon, planets, astrological houses, astrological aspects etc. But many people know just the “popular” astrology. If a person says: “I´m a Pisces”, it means that when he/she was born, the sun (who represents our soul in horoscope) was transiting the sign of Pisces. We can´t be all the same Pisces, Aries, Cancers because the position of all other astrological points change in a very complex way. However, people like to read about their sun sign. In the following lines, you´ll read what a kind of photographer you are according your sun sign. But remember, if you disagree, don´t blame astrology, it means that there are other stronger aspects in your horoscope.

Astrological signs of Fire element ...

RF for all over the world and Universe     posted on 10th of september, 2007

In one of our Czech magazines, a professional photograph talked about contracts he had to sign during his career. We are used to the one of Dreamstime, and so it might look almost fantastic to us what can be written in a contract.

In one of the contracts, mentioned by the photographer, was written that all the photos bought by the client can be used and spread all over the world and Universe. The photographer couldn´t but comment, “O.K., but I agree just with our galaxy.”

I wonder if it is normal or if the lawyer preparing the contract has been a big fan of Star Wars.

As well as I am curious when the human race will live also in other planets, if photography of nowadays kind will still exist or it ...

I have the same opinion that the visual art will be more interactive and 3D, but who knows maybe people will be as sentimental as they will like to keep photography in this way like memory for older time :-) - posted by Starblue on September 10, 2007

Notebook of ideas     posted on 6th of september, 2007

I have seen one photographer to draw a preliminary sketch before making photos. She has explained that it makes her feel immediately if the image can look well, even before preparing all the set. The mentioned photographer makes incredible preliminary sketches with pastels, trying to make the picture to the latest detail.

I am not able to draw so well... and frankly, I must confess I would´t have probably so a lot of patience for making detailed picture.

Before I have written down description of ideas with words in my notebook, now I quickly outline the idea and I add just some words like the color of objects or background.

I enjoy this way, it is faster and no one

of my ideas is "forgotten" as all these sketches are kept ...

Peter, I agree that during walking and in nature a lot of good ideas come out :-) - posted by Starblue on September 06, 2007
My way: I always take a little notice book with me (mostly). Sometimes Ideas come like a flash during walking, fishing etc. and then I draw a fast scribble of my idea for an illustration or a photo. I has been useful in the past, because this ideas are often away for ever, when the day is over. - posted by Photosaurus on September 06, 2007
I 'am not sure that, that will work to me, because if I write something, after a while I forget what I was thinking in that time. But very good for you! - posted by Icyimage on September 06, 2007

Romantic photographer     posted on 4th of september, 2007

When I saw this photo, it comes to my mind one wish…

It is a wonderful feeling to sell images, it is splendid to see improvements in making photos, it is exciting to try new kinds of photos and new techniques, it makes me happy to create new ideas…. Step by step photographing makes me more incomes and so I can allow to dedicate more time to it.

….. but seeing this photo it comes to my mind one wish – I don´t know where photographing will lead me, but I would always like to feel such a romantic mood like on this photo and joy during creating images. I have seen some photographers who totally lost the joy during photographing I would never like to come to that point. Photographing is too beautiful and it´s a pity to spoiled it with stress.

Is the trash your best friend?     posted on 19th of august, 2007

I´ve heard several photographers affirmed: “The best photographer’s friend is the trash”.

I know several photographers who have no mercy with photos that aren’t perfect at the first side (or after a small color adjustment). I can’t say the same about me.

Like with this photo. Imagine the picture without any light effect and without the blue color in background. During walk, my husband, I and our retriever have encountered this Christian cross. But the sky was colorless and the image didn’t come out interesting. However, I didn’t want to give it to the trash.

My husband suggested me to isolate it and to use it for a photomontage. My husband says: “You must make isolation of object in the right day, for example, during days that you don’t feel ...

Thanks for your nice words, Lavanya. My husband tells me, like you, step by step I will be more and more "generous" with the trash :-) - posted by Starblue on August 19, 2007
Personally, when I started out with photography, trash was never my best friend. Nowadays, I have to admit that I'm generous- as you say. Basically, archiving and selecting takes a toll on your time most times and you have to move on, unless the subject is exceptionally good. Your cross has come out great! - posted by Lavanya on August 19, 2007

What do you think about black background?     posted on 13th of august, 2007

Recently I have read several materials about using black background. Not a long time ago, I have tried to take photos with black background.

For example in case of this image of children´s hand protected by mother´s hand.

What I like about the black background the best is the simple and obvious fact that one doesn´t need to pay attention for shadows. Wonderful! Because the question of shadows (for example when they are too hard on light background) makes me upset. Black background resist much longer usable. White background is much more sensitive to any kind of dirt, even if one pays attention as much as possible.

And yet, I must say, I don´t use the black background as often as white (or colorful) backgrounds. Why? I do believe that the reason might be ...

This your answer makes me feel still more that black background is much prefered by artist, like you - creating artwork for theater. It sound very interesting, I wish you a lot of successes! While white background is prefered by designers working for magazines. I personally have minority photos with black background, but those ones I like for a special artistic, even a little mystical atmosphere :-) - posted by Starblue on September 03, 2007
I lprefer black backgrounds, but they pose a few problems in my line of work. I create artwork for a theatre. A black background costs more to print on a traditional poster. Black backgrounds make it harder to work with stock images, but I still like the look. And some people think the whole thing looks funereal. But I like the look. - posted by Francine1040 on September 02, 2007
I personally prefer white isolated images, since most of my webdesigns are white. However, there are a number of web designers that build with a black background in mind. - posted by Shecodes on August 20, 2007

From tomatoes to people     posted on 6th of august, 2007

Photographing, like any activity, needs training. It is easy to train with tomatoes, coffee or, for example, roses. You can take hundreds of shots, you can spend hours studying composition and the best light conditions. And “no one” of your “model” will complain.

But one day you can disclose that the best images are with a human element. A soup lying on a bamboo background is great, and yet it is even better when a beautiful female hand hold it. Many clients will (almost instinctively) prefer this image to the one without human hand. In this moment, you will make the second step to your success – making photos containing a part of human body. I love this kind of photos. Female hands, beautiful eyes, red lips... the human body offer you a lot of beauty and inspiration for photos....
