Appreciative thanks!     posted on 19th of october, 2007

My first blog was about how I suffered the misfortune of having a hard disk with all my photos crash on me. To make it worse I had to suffer the ignomony of not having done any backups for 3 months... (read about it if you want to here).

After a few months of trying to read and recover whatever I could from the defective drive, I gave up and called in the cavalry. I have to say that I have had my moments, that I have rallied against the cause, that I have moaned and criticised... and I guess some on the DT team know that I can be a pain in the neck when I put my mind to it. But I also believe that I am a fair person, and definitely big enough (despite my frail and fragile frame of a mere 1m65) to give credit where credit is due.

My hats of to DT for helping me out here. An e-maill explaining my

situation, and providing image ids... and at the end of the day 2 zip files waiting for me, with the lost files...

Many thanks to all of you, and especially to the two that were kind enough to respond to my mails: Leslie and Carmen.

Thank you all.

Sorry about your story. There are some data recovery companies which could help and never try Norton or any recovery program that would try to overwrite your error data or even reformatting the HD.

I did a DIY version of data recovery myself for a damage HD few years ago. That's a long story too. It was the hardware problem involving moving parts and electronics of the circuit board, instead of the 'disk' problem. If data is still on the disk there are methods to recover it.

I tried to take the risk of opening the HD without a dust-free room, and backuped the whole damaged disk which is opened. I think no dust will rest on the disk surface for the high spinning speed.

That was a great thing to do. We all have our times giving DT grief, some more than others (and that would include me lately). But, when we finally get past whatever it was causing us to be such pains, we realize that DT admin really does have our best interest at heart. Sure, it's a business for them, but they have managed to get a good balance of both the business AND personal side of things. That should be really appreciated. It takes a humble person to admit when they may not have been entirely fair in certain situations and come forward and, as you said, "give credit where credit is due". For that, Sami, I congratulate YOU!
