New record for SR-EL license - $5,100     posted on 24th of october, 2007

The previous record of $4,500 for a SR-EL license was exceeded today with a $5,100 sale. The file was acquired with exclusive SR-EL rights by a chocolate producer.

The image listed on the left is for illustration purposes only. The acquired file was very similar, but it is not this file. We cannot post the original here, but I thought this info would be useful to contributors and to everyone analyzing our industry.

And just as a side note, being exclusive matters. Royalties awarded to the non exclusive photographer would be $2,550. The exclusive additional royalties for such sale add $510 more, which is not bad at all.

Inspiring news! Did the photographer set the price or was the price negotiated between Dreamstime and the client who bought it? Because usually the recommended price is lower. And I bet nobody wants to set prices that are very high?

Nice to see that someone with a small portfolio can be successful... thank you for sharing. I look forward to the day when it happens for me!

I would license more of my photos with SR-EL, but it is difficult to change the default value...it's easier to just turn it off.

Any kind of image can get licensed via SR-EL, just as any image can get downloaded as regular RF. Better images have better chances, but the pattern is similar to the regular downloads. The author (is not Elena) is new, has a very very small portfolio, with less than 30 images online. People with over 1,000 images online can experience several SR-ELs though.

If the license is not enabled, some buyers may contact us. However, the time required to enable the license may force them to go for a replacement that has the license active. Add a "that's IF it gets enabled + unknown price at request time". We strongly suggest you to enable this license no matter if you choose our recommended prices or put your own. But that's only if you are able to disable that image from anywhere else, including your site, in less than 72 hours. It applies for all similar shots from that shooting so consider the price carefuly. Make sure it covers all future activity for that series while being low enough to keep the buyer happy.

That is seriously wonderful for the photographer. It certainly makes the case for 'micro' being a contender.

Thanks Serban, It is surely useful to me as a contributor to know what kind of pictures have SR-EL sales.

Fotogeek, the box needs to be ticked for best results. Some customers may just as well presume that you don't want to sell that image's rights if the option isn't there already.

Oh lala..Big congrats to the photographer and Dreamstime who made this chance possible. I presume that the photo had no downloads, when bought right? If so, then I don´t have any reason to lament if some of my images don´t get downloaded...

Congrats, and a well done to Dreamstime and the photographer. I also get some sick sense of analysis paralysis in the fact that the subject appears to be a flower.

wow! amazing..

Congrats to the contributor! and congrats to DT too!

Serban, does the picture need to have the "sell the rights" box clicked, or the buyer would contact the agency if that's not the case?
Thanks.
Congratulations for the photographer and for DT as well.
