Reflection on my 2007     posted on 4th of january, 2008

My 2007 was one my best years yet. Exciting events had taken place that I never envisioned possible. For one, I finally got to travel to the Rockies in the west coast of Canada. In preparation for my trip to the Rockies, I went out and bought myself a Sony DSC-H5. A rather siginficant upgrade from what I had owned before - a 3 MP Kodak Easyshare. Although the trip itself was more than a humbling experience, my photos turned out disappointing - the quality of my shots of the Rockies and various wildlife did not come out the way I had wanted. What appeared to be magical when I was there did not transverse into my photographs. Of course, I was still shooting in auto mode.

The disappointing photos from my Rockies trip lit a fire within me and I felt an overwhelming desire to improve upon my photography skills. This led me to encounter other exciting events in 2007 that I never thought possible.

As my undertaking to take up photography began, I started to have artistic thoughts. Yikes! Anyone who knows me well knows that I am no artist. I still remember I was awarded a failing grade on an art project one time in school. Yet, photography changed me. An enlightenment, if you will. Photography made me see things differently - every shape, every object, every tree, now I see from a different point of view.

As cliche as this may sound, taking up photography is like embarking on an odyssey for me. What I felt were good shots 4 - 5 months ago, I don't find them so good any more. In 2007, my journey led me to the purchase of a second camera within a year. Another event that I did not foresee. Near the end of 2007, I purchased a DSLR camera - a Nikon D-50.

I can dare say now that after 5 months of hard work, my photography skills have improved drastically. As such, I have to say that on the photography front, afterall this is a photography blog, 2007 was a magical year for me.

Hopefully in 2008, my photography journey will take me to new heights once more.

Any comments and critiques on my photos is welcome.

Best wishes to all in 2008.

I love the cityscapes, the Buddhas are so cute, and I love the chess pieces too. All fabulous photos. I'm huge fan of cityscape photography and artwork. It's so nostalgic. I love night scenes best, with lights reflecting on wet cement.
I recently started photography too. Happy Lucky 2008!
