This's the first blog in my life and my career in Dreamstime must be a new start in my life. Feb 24th, 2008,I spent almost whole night on this great site! And I've known how to upload pictures by ftp and how to edit the pictures in unfinished condition. Now I am waiting for the editor to check my photos. What's the most barrier for a Chinese to join the dreamstime? It's not camera, technique, law, but ENGLISH.I think most of Chinese will answer 'ENGLISH' with one voice!Yes,although most of Chinese study English for some years from middle school, even from kindergarden or primary school, but where can we use it?only for examination and next examination? Take me for an example,I've learned English for about 12 years, and I passed CET4,CET6 and some other examinations, but what can I do by English in my life? After I graduated from college, slowly,my English return back to my teacher who taught me English many years ago.China is so wide and most of time we only face the people around us. For communication,we use our mother language Chinese, that's enough,we think. So why our English can't be improved markedly?because we can't use the foreign language in our lives. If someone want to practise his English, the unique way is practising here and there. From now,Dreamstime is a good place, not only to sale my photos, but also practise my English. And here we can meet photographers from all over the world,to communication,to comment and to learn about photography.I know my English should be improved, welcome to give me advice and encouragement. Thanks all who read my first blog in English!Welcome to give me any comment!

on March 14, 2008 Believe it or not, I am very envious of you and admire this blog entry a great deal. I am a US citizen and a native English speaker. Although I took a year of French in high school and a year of German in college, it was prefunctory and of little use. I think one of the biggest regrets in my life is that the US educational system does such a poor job of instilling the value of learning a second language. I am grateful for my knowledge of English but have a tremendous admiration for people who have worked hard and struggled to make it their second language. As a show of that appreciation, I have purposefully spent quite a bit of time on Dreamstime suggesting keywords whenever I am browsing the database. I might not know another language but I try to go out of my way to help anyone learning or working with English as a second language. Your blog is a real inspiration to me... Thanks and best wishes!

on March 07, 2008 Married to a Chinese woman, I know too well about the inter-cultural and language barriers. English is also a foreign language for me.
But there are three ways to learn a language: practise, practise, practise. 学外语离不开练习。 |

on March 05, 2008 Well as an English (well, ok Welsh!) person I am very impressed with how well other nationalities can speak English. I think you write very well. It's a shame that us English, as a rule ,don't seem to be very good at learning other languages...although my Mum is currently learning to speak Chinese! |

on March 04, 2008 I think you speak and write good english as a second language, well done. Just thought I'd would mention you need to leave a space between your punctuation marks like this, otherwise its hard to read. Well done! |

on February 29, 2008 I think they call it globalization. In my case I speak Estonian 24/7 (ok, maybe less, I don't speak while I'm sleeping...), but all such international sites have helped me to improve my English. And I'm glad there exists a language in which we all could communicate. Really happy about that. Sometimes when I feel tired I can see it is reflected in my communication skills, but then I hope that DT photogs have good interpretation skills, like all creative people usually have :)) When I'm reading comments or writing I always keep Estonian-English dictionary open in another browser window and I check it many times. It helps a lot. But that's true that many great photographers and illustrators have limited ways to share their work because of lack of language or computer skills, which is also inevitable when you are dealing with stock sites. But I think a great help that DT is providing is Keymasters program, so about the English language, you need to know it to such an extent that you can understand TOS, and that's enough for beginning. :) I have couple of friends in China, and I like many features of your country and culture. It's great to have you and your fellow countrymen here. :) Good luck with your sales and studies! |

on February 29, 2008 Nice beginning! Last year I got known a friend from Canada in a training course in China. His native language is French. Even though he has stayed in Canada for 14 years, he can hardly speak English because his province Quebec is a French-speaking area. So he told me the biggest gain he came to China was that his English had been greatly improved. That's funny! |

on February 28, 2008 Congratulations on being so obviously literate in a second language, and you are obviously literate in photography as well!
While I am not a speaker of Chinese, I am in the process of learning Italian (at age 52, not easy!). The best way is to surround yourself as much as possible with the language. Since of course you (and I) cannot do that, what I have done instead is to read Italian websites, try to correspond with Italian photographers on Flickr, and watch the Italian cable channel that I subscribe to. Those efforts make a difference in my comprehension. |

on February 28, 2008 You're absolutely on the right path! As an American who taught English in China for 2 yrs. (Nanchong, Sichuan Province) years ago, I'm extremely impressed with how much more natural your English sounds than what I experienced back then. I think your fine achievements in studying English is opening doors for you, rather than being a barrier. Now if I could just be as diligent in studying my Chinese language! I'm going to have to ask Eprom how he/she gets characters to print out. I once had a program to do that, but it got lost in our old computer. I love your fern photo, by the way! |
