As you can see from my profile, I'm relatively new at this. Up until recently, I've uploaded photos I've taken on vacation and weddings and special functions. But I figured in order to have a diverse portfolio, one must also set up or fabricate shots. It seems that the most popular photos are the ones that are set up and not just random shots during vacation. Below are a few of what I mean.
What's common about these above photos are all of them are well thought out. Lighting is controlled. The whole photo is "set up".
So instead of just snapping photos of things around me, I going to give it a "shot" (pardon the pun) to set up up photos to be used for stock. My plan is not to just take photos but deliberately set up photos to shoot. So more planning and less snapping.
This is how I'm going to do it. So finally I'm going to explain the title of this blog. It's all about brainstorming and having ideas first. The method is to draw or doodle small diagrams of the photo. I've read if it looks good as a thumbnail than it will be good a stock photo. But I figured before even taking the photo, if my thumbnail size doodle/diagram looks good on paper, then I'll set up to shoot it. (That's says a lot since I can't draw very well) Hopefully by using this technique of doodling first and then shooting, it will produce quality well thought out stock photos that will sell. Try it yourself. I mean I'll doodling during downtime at work instead of just checking facebook or email. That and of course writing this blog. ;)
