Old versus new images     posted on 5th of february, 2008

I have found it very difficult to find "acceptable" stock images from my previous images.

The first issue is image quality my previous camera was a Canon Powershot s80. And while the images are very nice when blown up to 8x10, you can definitely see a difference in quality between the rebel Xti even with the kit lens.

The second issue is content. I previously wasn't really shooting for microstock (I only became aware of this market in early January).

So far, this is the only accepted image that I had previously shot that was considered acceptable for microstock.

Dog Pictures in Microstock     posted on 10th of february, 2008

I know it is verboten to use your dog in stock photography. I was pleasantly pleased when this one made it through the review stage. it depicts my beagle running away from the huge mouth of a Australian Shepard.

I like the composition in that there is definately a diagonal line and the flow is right to left. I might mirror it to go right to left just because to me right to left flow is more natural.

What do you do if your food is not attractive     posted on 12th of february, 2008

I really struggled with these dried chillis. I mean they are just too smoky and dark to really pop off the page.

Perhaps you could add some other ingredients in the background that have more color to them. Or better yet, some undried peppers. DeniseBeverly's suggestion of a colorful plate is something you could probably photoshop in fairly easily too. - posted by Naturalphotos on February 12, 2008
maybe if they were on a colorful plate or a cutting board it would set them off and accent the textures and color?? - posted by Denisebeverly on February 12, 2008

Congratualations! I thought it was a good shot when I read your previous blog where you had concerns about the dark colours. - posted by Cleaper on February 22, 2008

Fixing Noisy Skies in Photo Editing Software     posted on 26th of february, 2008

This image was taken on a a very bright day at 800 iso. The sky looked very noisy. I found a simple trick for noisy skies, just select the entire sky and use Noise/Median (2-3) pixels to smooth out the jaggies.
