Wedding Photography for Stock - another season approaching     posted on 29th of march, 2008

I've been taking wedding photos for friends and family for a couple of years now as wedding gifts and as a favour to them. I'm not a professional wedding photographer but I do enjoy shooting weddings a lot. I'm still relatively new in Stock photography so back then I shot more documentary weddings with people in the photos. Unfortunately most of my friends and family don't want to be online as my models so it limits what I can upload here :(.

But I'm very excited about the upcoming weddings this year. A lot of my friends are getting married this summer, so I'll be shooting some more weddings. This time, however, it will be different. I will have a stock photographer mind set. ;)

Weddings are perfect for stock photography. Bouquets, flowers, dresses, cakes, tuxedos, rings, etc., etc. Everything is very fancy and well thought out. Many hours of preparation and coordination. Perfect colour themes and schemes. Everything is so beautiful as it should be since it's one of the most important days between two people. A perfect setting for stock photography. The subjects and objects are beautiful. All you need to do now is just take the picture. And bingo, stock photos. Of course make sure your lighting is great. Probably good to bring a tripod for still life photos so you can shoot at lower ISOs. But pretty much the subjects are already made up, so why not shoot it.

However, since my "models" are all young professionals,

they again probably are not willing for me to sell photos of them which are recognizable. So I'll have to shoots some photos of them leaving the church and other angles which render them not recognizable. Definitely different from what I am used to. But it will be a fun experience and I'm looking forward to the upcoming weddings.

So if you have a upcoming wedding. Get into the stock photographer mind set since the day is not only filled with joy and emotions, but also filled with stock photo opportunities.

Thanks for the great idea, I have to go back and look at some of the images from the many weddings I have attended and see if there is anything I can use.
