Hello, world     posted on 10th of april, 2008

Dear fellows,

I am happy to be able to broadcast my warmest greetings to all of you, creators of art, designers of illusions, and all sorts of necessary roles for a better world.

Cheesy words apart, I am really happy I have landed in here, this is my first experience in stock photography but as far as I've seen, it looks quite promising. I am just a bit disappointed my pictures have remained 6 days and counting in "pending" status. It's a bit off putting to arrive to such an exciting website and see the countdown timer increase again and again, but, what the heck, maybe it's worth the pain.

Anyhow, I've been watching other photographers' pictures, it's a very inspiring activity, and doing it one remembers how much there is still to learn.

My pictures are mostly portraits, but also travel photography. I am from Valencia, the third biggest city in Spain. But I left it a few years ago and since then I've lived in London (UK), and Barcelona (Spain). I've visited Paris (France), Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy), Fukoaka (Japan) and Bristol (UK). My pictures show all those experience and sometimes I also try to share my feelings through images. I often hung my pics in local exhibitions, and I've sold images to both public and private parties.

I'd love to read your feedback! So far I've uploaded a bunch of pictures to test the site, but I have thousands. I just hope I won't have to wait a week if I wanted to add some more!

Hola from Barcelona.

Yours,

Luis Serrano

Hi Luis! Portrait photos need a Model Release and be sure you have one for every face. Best selling photos are defined among other things by their keywords, too. Just keep uploading and don´t be disheartened by "waiting and rejections." They´re simply part of the stock game. Welcome!

Thank you Amyemilia! I too think it's good that they're choosy, that will make me tune my style to fit the business. I have sold many pictures but I've never tried stock photography before. This is more complex, since is not you selling you pictures, a photography here must be sold by itself. It's a world of generic imagery so the more open our style is the more audience it'll reach.

Thank you for the advise. I love this picture of yours!

Welcome, Luis! Like you, I have traveled a lot, and accumulated tons of photographs, My Dreamstime experience has been positive thus far - I joined in January and have finally made it to 100 uploads and 10 sales today. Distinguishing between stock and "pretty" took me a very long time and actually I still don't get it very well. My advice is to keep plugging away - you will eventually get your work reviewed and accepted. Dreamstime is quite choosy about what it accepts but that is all to the good since then designers can then trust the quality of the entire site.

I think you will have good luck with your Italian shots since I read on a post that Tuscany sells well. Good luck!

    About Me
Luis Serrano (Moonwalker)
Barcelona, ES

I love photography, though my main occupation is web development. Dreamstime is my first experience -so far- with stock photography and I am learning a lot here.

I lived in Valencia, Barcelona (Spain) and London (UK), and I have a huge collection of pictures full of memories to tell. But now I am trying to focus on commercial photography.

I'd love to share experiences with you, so don't hesitate and feel free to contact me any time. I also accept assignments, specially if you'd like to have pictures of Spain, Barcelona, the Mediterranean views, etc.
