A couple weekends ago when I went to shoot a kite flying event, I became greatly intrigued with the youth soccer photo opportunities that were waiting for me when I arrived there.
I played soccer for 13 years myself, so the opportunity to capture the essence of something I'm very passionate about overwhelmed me. ... And I nearly cried when I ran out of memory. =( I had gone out that weekend expecting only a kiting event, so took only a 4 GB memory card. I was only able to fill about half of that with soccer pictures. =(
I found the area's soccer schedule online and planned for another outing. This time I was going with an 8GB, and a couple of 4 GB memory cards (plus 2 extra batteries). Four hours and 800 plus JPEGS and RAW files later, I headed home.
Reviewing the images of kicks, throws, passes, blocks, etc, I started to feel a twinge in my facial skin. Thinking I probably just had windburn I brushed it off. My shoulders stung a little bit in the shower, and I thought I must have gottan a little sun. About an hour later my husband arrived home. He hugged me and I screamed. My shoulders hurt sooo bad! He took me to rub aloe on me, and I saw in the mirror the sunburn that had spread across my face, shoulders, neck, chest, and down my arms to include the backs of my hands.
There was no comfortable position to lay in last night, and no amount of alow with lidocaine or sleeping aids took enough of the edge off to get some decent rest.
Lesson learned: every year, before it starts getting warm enough to want to spend all day outside, go and buy at LEAST two bottles of sunblock. Keep one bottle in your home, and put the other in your camera bag. I'm going to buy 4 bottles of sunblock tomorrow, one for the house and one for each of my camera bags that I use the most. *sigh*
