What kind of Camera do you use.......and why?

I currently am using the Nikon D80, but will be upgrading or adding to my photography arsenal soon, but not sure to what get. Any suggestions? I have done some research, via magazines and talking with store clerks, but I really would like some advice from people in the trade, so if you have a chance please let me know what you think. I like the simplicity of the Nikon D80, but am ready for more. Thanks in advance. Cheers Angie

Thanks for all the comments.......I have decided to go with the D300. Yes, that way I can still use the lenses I have. I am not crazy about how heavy it is, but I will still use the D80 for the day to day stuff till I get used to the 300. A friend of mine has the D3 which is so awesome, but out of my $$ range.

Nikon D300 (1800.00)almost as good as the D3 but you can use your D80 lenses... (DX format) If you really want to Rock get the D3 (5000.00) but you will need to buy new lenses (FX format) The D3 is smokin' fast, unbelievable hi ISO low light capability and the image quality is awesome...

I use a Nikon D50 which seems to be similar to the D80. The only thing that I dont like about the D50 is that it doesnt have a sensor cleaning function. I realise the D60 now adds this but I'm not sure I want to pay for a new camera just for that single feature. What dont you like about the D80, or more specifically what do you want it to do that it doesnt already do? |

I use an Olympus E-400 but this is mostly because I'm not very tolerant when it comes to carrying heavy equipment! It is a great slr and is much lighter than all the others and comes with me when traveling. However, saying this I would love a new Olympus E-3 or a top of the range Nikon. I love Olympus cameras and have always used one since the days of film but I also have a soft spot for Nikon and would love to try a Nikon D3 (if someone can carry all the equipment for me!!). Maybe one day I can afford one - need to start selling more images on Dreamstime I think!! |

Want to keep it in the 2k range, been thinking about the Nikon D2 because of it features and versability, also the D3, but thinking it might be over my head. Might buy something used, and resell it if I don't like it. Not sure though.
Only have three lenses, so it is not out of the question to consider something totally new. |

This is a great question, and one I have faced myself quite a few times.
Here are some things to consider:
What will you be using the camera for? Sports? Travel? All types of subjects? Some cameras are better suited to one type of subject than others, because of their speed, size, etc.
What is your budget? You can spend almost anything you want on cameras. What's your price point?
Do you have any lenses you want to keep using? This might be more of a question for the SLR crowd, but it can make or break the decision. |

heya, i just purchased a secoind hand Nikon D50 2 weeks ago. It is good for me, but i'm, still exploring it and learning all about it. I'l be checking back on this blog, because i'm also interested on what other photograhers are using / find good to use.

I am using a Sony DSC-F828. I am not at all impressed with it, and I am looking to upgrade.
The negatives of this camera are:
1. Not SLR.
2. No interchangeable lenses.
3. Slow focus time.
I would suggest staying away from the Sony DSC-F828. |
