I was an participant in the recent local Democratic convention. The process in Texas is strange and almost impossible to explain (which is why one of the resolutions voted on was whether or not to retain it). In short, some delegates are awarded to candidates based on the popular vote, and some are awarded based on the a precinct convention of delegates held after the primary. I was an alternate this year, and thus attended the convention for my senate district. Regardless of political persuasion, it was worth the time and effort to attend. I got to the gates at 6:45AM, to line up for the sign up beginning at 8AM. There were already some folks there, and by the time the gates opened there was a line of hundreds behind me. This convention has never seen a population ... [ Read more... ]

Hi Amy!
I have to say you are as good as a writer as you are as a photographer. I am going to add you to my favourites! :)
I liked your article because I've been involved in politics too. I was the president of my local voting centre a few years ago. My role was basically to be sure that every person could vote, taking their names and logging their details. At the end of the day, I was present -and actually I was part- of the votes recount. It was, as you said, long, boring... but also exciting in a way. I watched delegates of both major parties walking around trying to look nice hehe. My father is one of them, he supports the Socialists (maybe you know our president Zapatero, he took the Spanish Army away from Irak). Zapatero's party is to Spain what Democrats are to US.
Anyway, I liked your article a lot, and also your pics.
See you around!

Wow, sounds like you had the adventure. My boss went and he stayed the whole 10 hours it took. We are also here in Houston. - posted by

Today I reached 100 uploads, and coincidently, also 10 sales. This has been a long and sometimes frustrating road! Along the way I have learned that stock photography is quite a different beast from travel or just "pretty" shots. My natural tendency towards subtle muted lighting isn't very compatible with stock apparently! It is fitting that this 100th upload is a background shot of asbestos shingles. Backgrounds have been my most successful acceptance category, although not my most successful sales category. The most successful sales category? Let's break it down, although I agree that analyzing 10 sales is probably not too valuable. Out of 10 sales, 6 were vertical, 4 horizontal in format. I tend to prefer vertical formats when I shoot so that is no ... [ Read more... ]

Not to worry, Kevin! I'm sure you will have great success. Just keep uploading... I am continually astonished at what sells and what gets accepted, so obviously I don't understand stock yet. If I did, there would be less astonishment!
Will be watching your portfolio for more shots for The Great State of Texas! - posted by

Congratulations! I've reached 108 uploads. Recently I had too much work to do, thus I can spend little time on DT. - posted by

Top 10 Places I want to visit, in no particular order: 1. Madagascar The flora and fauna of this large island are fascinating, and fast disappearing. 2. New Zealand The landscape of The Lord of the Rings, green and gorgeous. 3. Australia Wild kangaroos and big flocks of cockatoos – you can’t see them anywhere else in the world. 4. Panama Canal Manmade wonder of the world. 5. Trans-Siberian Railway Not really a place, more of a journey across history and culture. 6. The Ice Hotel, in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden This destination would also allow me (hopefully) to see the Northern Lights. 7. Iceland As long as we are on the subject of ... [ Read more... ]

Well, I haven't seen all of the beautiful country for sure! But this is sort of a "dream destinations" list of places I'll probably never get to. I need to start working on my other list - my 10 favorite places that I've already been to... - posted by

(Amyemilia)
Houston, US
I've been taking photographs since I was in my early teens, and I embraced the digital format in 2003, almost 40 years later. Now, I'm venturing into selling my work, and my entries on Dreamstime are my first effort. Please feel free to provide comments and criticism - I am always learning! I maintain a Flickr photostream as well as my blog site above. My user name on Flickr is AmyEmilia (surprise, eh!)
