United States Memorial weekend     posted on 19th of may, 2008

This weekend will be Memorial weekend in the states.

It's a time to remember all of our folks that have served and are now serving in the military.

We all take it for granted what sacrifices they make for us.

The extensive training and the long hours are only magnified by the danger and the long time away from family and loved ones.

They put it all on the line for millions of people they have never met.

They are on call every hour of every day of the year to protect our lives by giving theirs if needed.

Some how saying thanks is just not enough, but most of the time they don't even get that.

Next time you see a person in uniform just walk up to them and say thanks. You can tell by their smile they know exactly what your talking about.

It is excellent to always remember the sacrifices our armed forces make to support real freedom. However, as a country we totally suck at truley treating our soldiers who survive the trauma of war. We don't provide very good long term health care, guaranteed jobs, family financial support when the soldier either dies or cannot work and support their family's, mental treatment, physical therapy and so forth. With all the damn money this country wastes you'd think that they'd set a priority on supporting our soldiers in multiple post-war scnearios. Our soldiers give and risk their lives and come home to what? Hope. Hope that they will receive adequate and fair support from the very government that askes them to sign up to serve our country. Thumbs up to our soldiers and thumbs down to the way they are treated when they come home.

Great thought and great images. I am thankful everyday for the men and women who fight for freedom and liberty, not just for us, but for people they have never met. I am proud to be an American and I am thrilled that my own son has just returned from his second tour of duty in Iraq. God bless our troops.

You are absolutely right. To us, just saying "thanks" doesn't seem like much. I'm around a lot of veterans (my husband is a Vietnam veteran). What seems to be most important to them is simply to know that we are supporting them, that we are praying for them, that we love them, and that they will always be welcome back home. And let's not forget their families, too. They also are serving our country with the sacrifice of this time in their lives without their loved ones. God bless and protect them all!

I was at one time a semi- pro photographer in the film era. I have now of course made the change to digital, and although the ideas are the same, the rest is all new. My main goal is to put in an image what I feel the momment I push the shutter button.
