In most countries you can't smoke in bars en restaurants anymore. But for the Netherlands this rule is new since July 1st. Friends of mine told me they already smoked allot less then before that rule. For most people this new rule was a good excuse to (try to) stop smoking. Over 600.000 Dutch people already stopped smoking in the Netherlands. Let's hope they all can push trough and don't start smoking again. I'm not a smoker and i'm really happy they set this new rule here. Don't you just hate it when you come home from a bar and all your cloths smell like smoke?

on July 17, 2008 yep I know the big title was just a joke suggesting that just tobacco was illegal, others stuff were allowed... :) But, yes, forbidden smoke raise some unexpected problems...sometimes funny, sometimes serious.... well, times changes... :) |

on July 16, 2008 In The Netherlands the don't want to forbid smoking in a coffee shop. They are afraid that people will smoke on the streets then. Which will bring drugs to the streets which is illegal (and a bigger problem). |

on July 16, 2008 ...Really, i've read on the web somewhere that smoking "Tobacco" won't be allowed in the coffe shop :) Anyway that is the rule already in Paris, and it seems that the frequentation of restaurant and disco has decrease a lot...Oh, and suddently it appears that the smoke was hidding a lot the smell of the suor in the disco . Endeed, disco are facing a kind of new and unexpected problem : smell of hundred people dancing and drinking...(note: it seems that smell doesn't represent a treat for your health, just your confort) The good point is the raise of terrasse in Paris, and the fact that some terrasse get gas to warm people drinking outside in the wintertime...what was quiet cool that winter and what disturb a lot the neighboorough, specially at night.(Well, pills to sleep are still allowed) Of course, it seems that a lot of people have stop smoking, or are smoking pure tobacco which are less expensive, but apparently a bit more agressiv for the health. Far away, indeed, is the time were cigarettes were offered to the young people as a sign of modernity and goodness.... And welcome to Netherland for it enter in this new and pure breathe world where to be a non-smoker is a sign of modernity and goodness while smoking is clearly a sign of low will and neglection .... I truly think that smoking is not good for the health, but I also think that way of doing is a bit repressiv... . But I know, all that is made with truly good intention, of course : helping us to reach 150 years old with a good heatlh. |
