Here are some of my latest photos from Winthrop WA, a town in Eastern Washington State, USA. The whole town has a fake western look to it, but there are some great things there to photograph. There were many more photos that I shot, but I was still getting used to a new camera, my first Canon camera.

I have had my new Canon 40d camera for just over a month now. This replaced the Sony DSC-F828 that I was shooting with previously. The upgrade from the Sony to the Canon was like moving from a toy camera to a real camera. Here is my favorite photo that I have shot with the new camera over the last 4 weeks. When you zoom in to 100% or view it in raw (CR2) format there is so much detail. I was never able to shoot anything this sharp with the old Sony camera. Thanks to everyone on the DT message boards who helped me decide on the Canon 40D instead of the XSI (450D). I am loving it and having fun.

Are you shooting in raw and then converting?
Yes, I am shooting raw and high res jpg. The JPG gives me a quick way to view in before loading it up to vies it as a raw file.
Everything that I upload to DT starts as a raw file, then I can adjust white balance and other settings. Then saved as a JPG, noise reduction applied, then uploaded as a JPG and CR2. - posted by

I have to admit that my acceptance ratio hit a low of 40%. It was around that point that I decided to purchase a new camera. I am happy to report that since I started shooting with the new Canon 40d that my acceptance ratio has been improving nicely. Now up to 46% and rising on every image that I submit. Here is my latest accepted image. Over the years, every time that I upgrade to a new camera, I realize how much of an improvement the new camera was. Here is a short history of my cameras. 1970's sometime. My first 110 camera. 1986 My first 35mm, point and shoot. 1993 Minolta Maxum. My first SLR. 1996 Minolta Maxum. This was a better model to replace the older one that my toddler son dropped. 1999 Jam Cam - 640x480 only. ... [ Read more... ]

I try to avoid the Auto ISO feature, and set the ISO myself. If there is enough light I use ISO 100 whenever I can. - posted by

Canon 40D if the ISO is set to Auto,ISO is roughly 400,the through rate is very low,Last week,I set to ISO 100 and found that the pass rate has been noticeably improved. - posted by

My first camera was a Canon AE1 back in 1985. I went through a long series of trade/in used film cameras from Canon (T70, A1, Elan II) then finally went digital with the Canon Digital Rebel. I upgraded to the XT, then got a used 20D. Since I got the 20D (or any of the digital cameras for that matter) I've had a hard time justifying any more upgrades for the time being. - posted by

I live in Northwest Washington State, in the United States of America. I am just a few miles south of the US/Canada border. There are many beautiful areas to shoot photos. This first one was shot on Patos Island in the San Juan Islands, just west of where I live. This is Mt Shuksan in the Mount Baker Ski Area, just east of where I live. .. . . And there are some that are not so beautiful, but still make great photos. I hope that someone can use these refinery photos. The Oil Refineries are just up the street from my house.
