Taking the Long Way Around, Looking Down     posted on 28th of august, 2008

There I was, in the midst of a family graduation. I made a point of getting as many photos of the graduation as I could, then I rushed over to the reception, hoping to get more candid shots of family and friends.

Needless to say, there was a bit of stress involved, as this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for my sister, and for the other graduates. Would the weather hold up? Could I get natural-looking shots indoors without a flash? Would I remember to get pictures of all the friends?

I decided to take a breather, and walked a bit outside. The rain had just stopped, and the sky was clearing. As I looked down, I found some of the most magnificent red I had ever seen. Juxtaposed with the green, these two maple leaves seemed to be about ending and beginning, closing one chapter and opening another, renewal and change. . . Maybe that's too much to read into a couple leaves on the wet pavement. If so, I still love the red :)

I will have to try the polarizer next time, if I see this possibility again. Thanks for the tip. - posted by Charlesoutcalt on August 29, 2008
Thanks, Marilyn. Maybe it was just the moment for reflection? I am glad I was looking down at that moment :) - posted by Charlesoutcalt on August 29, 2008
Wonderful to see so much in something so simple. Many would have stepped over without a thought. Well done. Cheers - posted by Marilyngould on August 28, 2008
