BEGINNER'S blog: How much will you earn.     posted on 28th of october, 2008

Hello there ! If you've just started to work on Dreamstime (DT) probably you wonder how much you can earn.. or how long will it take.

Let me tell you what usually happens. I've done a research on the message boards and this came up: Earning the first 100$ takes place in about 6 months if you work between 7-30 hours per week (part-time anyway). Some of these get 100$ in 4 months or less.. but some others earn it in one year or more. This shouldn't worry you because if you work constantly you will get that hundred in 6 months or less. The reason some photographers earn it a year or so.. is that they stop working. If you don't upload images, your portofolio remains small. Without an increasing portofolio don't expect much sales.

Work, work and again work ! If you really enjoy making photos or illustrations then working will be great for you.. so do it more often. Some dreamstimers spend all of their time making photos, uploading, illustrating and so... when going to a party they take the camera, they enjoy every bit of their work and they deserve earning more.. they have large portofolios and earn about 100$ per day... or more.

You wonder how can you earn so much when you usually get 50 cents per download ? Well that's true. You'll need about 1000 downloads in a month to earn 500$. Your images are ranked.. so if their level increases, their price increases as well. And that's not it. For a print right the price of an image raises to 30-50$. You can take assignments. For every image accepted in the assignment you get 25$ for selling the rights or your image gets a higher level and is sold from aprox 3$ minimum.

Definitely you can earn as much as your work permits.

I seem to fall into this pattern as well. First payout in about 4 months, over 200 sales a month now (year and a half later). One difference in whether it takes 4 or 6 months is if you go exclusive. If you upload 80 images a month and are exclusive you'll be a few dollars from a payout after 6 months with NO sales :) - posted by Bradcalkins on July 29, 2009
