Less than 6 weeks ago, the Australian Dollar was nearly at parity with the USD. Now it has slipped below .79 cents. While it does make it difficult to then buy camera gear in the USD, it has the effect of being paid a 20% bonus on all my sales at Dreamstime. And there is another pass off effect. Lots of Australian importers of camera gear bought a lot of stuff when the dollar was high, so my money now buys more camera gear. For instance, I bought a new Canon 24-105 L IS lens on Thursday for $1100 AUD which is $USD869. This made it the cheapest shop in the world at the time. Right now I am busily loading more pics at DT trying to make that extra 20%. I hope the shift in the dollar is working for you as well.

And it is still dropping, down to .68 now I believe. Makes for a good payday. I just spent three months overseas and ended up buying all my additional gear back here in Aust where it was cheaper, due to the exchange rate. - posted by

I like most people, get hung up in my own problems and rarely find time to think of those who have it worse off, or who are dealing with real problems. Only today, I found out that Robert Mizerek, aka rjmiz had passed away after losing his battle with cancer. Oddly, I had noticed his postings on the microstockgroup forum missing. Many times over the past few weeks I thought of starting a thread "hey, where's the Miz". I didn't though. I realise he would have had close friends and family, and even though the guy was half a world away from me, I strangely missed him. And tonight, while I am sitting here knocking the top off a couple of beers, I am looking into the fire and thinking, Goodbye Miz, Goodbye.

I too sat and thought about Robert Mizerek. I knew him only through his forum postings, his strong opinions, whether agreed with or not and his sense of wit often resulted in a good laugh. In addition, I had often browsed his vivid as well as inspiring portfolio. Somehow I hope he knows he touch many lives. - posted by

I was wondering today if through Dreamstime I might make a bad situation better. I was pondering the thought that many others might have the same issues as I do as a parent, and if video game addiction might be a source of sales for stock photos. My 16yo is totally addicted to a game called World of Warcraft. It has taken over and ruined most of his life. He refuses to discuss it, has been absent on many occassions from school, he steals, and lies to feed this addiction. For me it has been the cause of so much stress. It is almost as if this disease has infected the rest of the family and we are helpless to deal with the issue. I believe soon this addiction thing will become a huge issue around the world, I see so many forums where folk are ... [ Read more... ]

my 16 yo also does the games but never liked WOW, he and my hubby are on star wars galaxies, lord of the rings, mount and blade things like that. hubby is far more addicted than our son, but none of the ones they do cost anything past a monthly fee that is small. no purchasing characters, armor, anything like that with real money. good luck.. its a hard age.. - posted by

Hey, firstly thanks for using my photo :-)
I know WoW very well - played the game for almost 5 years, and must have been one of the oldest (physically) players in the game. It is indeed an addiction and I spent thousands of dollars purchasing characters, in-game gold, leveling services etc. My wife started to complain badly, found herself some alternative entertainment which was really bad for our marriage, and I stopped the game and instead turned my photography hobby into something more serious.
Once you have joined a WoW group, they will expect of you to be online at a certain time, and for a certain period of time in order to complete quests and dungeons. If you don't do this you get kicked out or demoted. The game becomes like a second life.
I have no real advice, except to put your foot down and give him only a certain amount of time per week for the game. Take away his PC, or disconnect the Internet if he wont listen. At the time I left the game, I was really bored of it ... More) - posted by
