advice requested on camera model

posted on 17th of june, 2008
i'm just about ready to start thinking about upgrading my camera.. my current one has uneven focus and besides it seems to have stopped working.. so im considering an upgrade.. i wish i could afford all the great equipment you guys have but i cannot.. what kind of camera would you get if you only had 500$ to spend? would it be better to buy a used camera or just a more moderate one? i only shoot in digital.

Tara,
We need to know what is your actual equipment.
If you have a DSLR, than you should upgrade keeping the same brand so you can keep your actual lenses.
If its not a DSLR I would suggest to get a DSLR, a good start would be the new Canon EOS Rebel XSi.

I would take a serious look at some of the used stuff on places like e-bay. If you are looking for a DSLR you can probably pick up a Canon 20D and a 50mm lens for about your price range. Both can deliver really fine photos and good performance.
