Rucar - Bran Passage from Romania

posted on 28th of august, 2009

Situated between Bucegi Mountains and King's Stone Mountains, the Rucar-Bran Passage is one of the most spectacular natural views in Romania. This passage links the counties of Brasov and Arges from Brasov city to Campulung Muscel city.
Along this passage you can find many tourist objectives like: Bran Castle, Rasnov Fortress, Dambovicioara Gorges and Cave, Dambovita Gorges and some
Bran Castle, situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The castle is a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures from across the country.
Rasnov Fortress was built about 800 years ago on a rocky hilltop, elevated at about 150m above in the small town of Rasnov. It is located 15 km southwest of Brasov and also about 15 km from Bran Castle. The fortress is on the Bran Pass, a trade route connecting Wallachia with Transylvania. It is one of the biggest rural fortresses in the country and somehow unique in that it was meant to be a place of refuge for the commoners from sieges over extended periods of time. As such it had at least 30 houses, a school, a chapel, and other buildings more commonly associated with a village.

If you're an active person, Bucegi Mountains and King's Stone Mountains offers many places where you can practice lots of outdoors activities like: trekking, climbing, mountain biking, rafting, skiing.
From Bran or Moeciu de Sus you can reach to Omu Peak (2505m) on many different routs. Omu Peak is the tallest peak from Bucegi Mountains and the 11th tallest peak in Romania.
From Dambovicioara, Sirnea, Pestera or Magura you can climb King's Stone Mountains, one of the most beautiful mountain in Romania.

My favorite part of the Rucar - Bran Passage is located between the villages Dambovicioara – Ciocanu – Sirnea – Pestera – Magura. The landscape is breathtaking, the air is clean, people are kind and warm.
Weather is autumn, winter, spring or summer, Rucar - Bran Passage is a great place to visit or spend your holidays.
