Wied Iz-Zurrieq     posted on 6th of october, 2009

>Although a tiny island Malta is graced with some beautiful countryside and scenery. One area which is beautiful and also inspiring is Wied Iz-Zurrieq which is found on the cliffy south-east coast of the island. Much of this coast line is made up of dramatic cliffs punctured every now and then by a deep and small valley which leads towards the sea. Wied Iz-Zurrieq is one of these, the word 'wied' being the Maltese word for valley.

I just hope that 'progress' won't get in the way and spoil this natural beauty.

I am happy that a recent batch which I uploaded has been accepted and wanted to show them off a bit here:

@ Creativei: Cheers and nope the clouds are untouched. Used a radial polarisor while shooting and did a basic clean up in photoshop.
Re Wadi in Hindi and Urdu... well well, that's truly an interesting observation. I wonder how many more similarities there are between the languages.

Thanks peeps!
Wildmac... I hope so too!
Mani.... well that would be since Maltese has its roots in Arabic. Basically Maltese is a semitic language that uses the roman alphabet. Possibly the only semitic language that does? Its roots come from over 2 centuries of Arab occupation but has been influenced by countless civilisations that have occupied the islands over the history of mankind.

Wikipedia have a good general, but very abbreviated, history of the islands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Malta

Beautiful! Good luck with them!

PS: The word valley in Arabic is Wadi! I think it's close! Don't you think?!

Thanks for the great comments! :-))

@Fotomagique: Quite right... Progress is often seen in the wrong light and the very earth that sustains us is usually the first to suffer! A big pity really which comes about due to many people's ignorance on environmental matters.

I like your images, especially the sky, so deep and endless. - posted by Ladyamber on October 06, 2009
Many times the word progress have been applied in a wrong way. What can be progress for people, for our environoment ( including us) can be a total disaster!

Beautiful sky and photos! Congratulations!
