Does your stock production need a check up? I've been thinking a bit more about my microstock efforts recently. I have a modest to middling portfolio here that I've built up somewhat haphazardly over time. It performs ok, I get downloads but certainly not great returns. There are smaller collections that perform much better than mine. Why is this I ask myself. I think this is a question many contributors could do well to ponder for themselves.
Most of us, I suspect start from a love of photography and submit shots we've made because we wanted to. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I think the more successful contributors do well by moving beyond this and thinking before they shoot. I'm thinking I need to do this more!
So how can I produce more images that will perform well for me? Well for a start I think every contributor should analyse their own portfolio to see what is working, and what doesn't. Your favourite images are not necessarily your best stock images. If you can spot any themes or continuity in what seems to sell well for you then you're on your way to improving your productivity by producing better submissions in the future! Perhaps you have a style or niche developing without realising it?
Targetting your efforts towards what seems to be working in your portfolio should see improvements in your stats and earnings. At the least pausing to stop and think about your efforts can help you determine your goals and focus on achieving them.

You have a wonderful portfolio. Microstock business is getting very competitive nowadays. So, I agree with you that some planning before shooting can produce better stock oriented photo.
