Chinese Symbols for Chinese New Year

posted on 1st of december, 2009

Christmas might just be around for the corner for you guys in the west and I know that my nieces and nephews are getting very excited about it. Happy Christmas!

But in East Asia, Chinese New Years is much more important. The next Chinese New Years starts on 14th February 2010 and it will be the Year of the Tiger. So it's time to get your images for this event.

I've just updated the 'Chinese Cultural Symbols' collection to include images for the Year of the Tiger

These are mostly papercuts, a traditional Chinese craft.

There are many more images in the collection. Take a look here

Just a quick question - do you think adding images of real tigers will be within the theme of the collection?

Beautiful.
If it was my collection, I would not add real tigers, I don't think it fits the spirit. Better a smaller collection than one that has a fuzzy editorial line.
If I wanted to expand the collection, I'd look at the other signs.

Thanks for your comments. I think for now, I won't add real tigers to the collection. I agree with Rosedarc that it's better to keep a smaller and well defined collection.

Yes, I think you could add images with real tigers, powerful images.

Thanks Mani. I also don't have any clue whether it'll be a lucky year for tigers. It's a good symbol to be. I'm a 'cock' but I'd much rather be a tiger.

Interesting! My Chinese sign is Tiger, but I have no clue if next year will be my lucky one or not! I have to read :))
Nice collection! Thanks ;)
