'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Facebook style)

Perhaps many of us are also on Facebook... here's a little something I wrote in honor of the holidays. Perhaps you'll enjoy.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all thru Facebook
Not a creature was stirring, not even Mafia War crooks.
All the photos had been tagged with all the friends’ names
All was dead silent, even the games.

All the friends were slumbering deep into sleep
Just thankful that they, their sanity would keep.
When up on Facebook came a terrible noise.
It was old Santa Claus, with a bag full of toys.

I sprang to the computer and looked very deep.
But the vision I saw just made my eyes weep.
But what I saw next, brought me much fear.
He was driving a sled, but without his reindeer!

“What happened dear Santa? Something’s gone bad!”
“You’re missing your reindeer. We’ll all be so sad!”
He looked awfully down, and then turned to say,
“MafiaWars and Farmerville – too much did I play.”

“I wasted my time trading guns and much loot.”
“I barely had time to retrieve this old suit.”
“And as for those reindeer, I carelessly lost.”
“All for some guns – what a terrible cost.”

I sat in my chair, stunned and dismayed.
Wasn’t I glad that I never played!
But Santa was in trouble, we had to act quick!
We must find an answer to save old St. Nick.

I planted a farm in a virtual way.
Raised me some cows and fed them some hay.
I traded those cows for some knives and a gun.
This Mafia Wars – it is rather fun!

I bartered and swapped and clawed my way up.
Became a crime boss – I was really quite tough.
I became a Mafioso and learned how to steal.
I found all those reindeer and made a quick deal.

My mission accomplished, I chose to retire.
Gun running and farming – it’s not quite my style.
Old Santa was thrilled, with joy beyond words.
When he saw those reindeer – the sum total herd.

Santa grabbed for the reigns and strapped himself in.
Then called all their names, with the wryest of grins.
And off toward the stars, I watched Santa fly.
Big sleigh, lots of toys, and one jolly old guy.

Twas the morning of Christmas when I did awake.
The first thing I noticed was the awful headache.
A dream, or a vision, or just too much work?
A dream I decided and smiled with a smirk.

All over the world, at dawn’s first light,
Children opened presents with all of their might.
And nary a thought of their troubles did stray,
Because this indeed, was a very special today.

For now ‘tis the season not to be stressed.
But to see friends and family and count ourselves blessed.
Rekindle old friendships and make new ones too.
To live and to love and to always be true.

And to know Santa flies with gifts in his sled,
As the boys and girls sleep, warmly tucked into bed.
Listen quite carefully – you might hear his flight.
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
