I became exclusive

posted on 5th of february, 2009

Well, that's the news. I became exclusive to DT today :)
I think it to be a good choice for an amateur like me that doesn't have tons of time to work with lots of agencies. And the reward 0,20$ per uploaded image may look humble, but considering that in my country postgraduate students like me now get monthly scholarship less than 50$ it's a good help.
Also, I heard that exclusivity affects how high your works appear in searches so I hope sales will go better now.

I thing being an exclusive photographer is good because your images only can be found in dreamstime site, that means they can not be found in any site . And also we should bear in mind that popular images that can be found in every site can easily be hacked and distrubited on the net easily. So being an exclusive is a good think.

you're welcome. i am also playing with the idea of exclusivity . yes, it must have some advantage to concentrate on just one site to have them sell your creative works.
and you are right about the little money. little bits here, little bits there,
it can add up to a lot. depends on how you see it.
i look forward to see how your exclusivity works out. who knows, it could convince me to do the same in future.

Color above the shadows

posted on 9th of february, 2009

I don't know if it will be news to you, but want to share anyway.
While drawing in Photoshop I always preferred placing color first and adding shadows, midtones and highlights next.
One friend gave me an idea to try it vise versa. Place all shadows and highlights, he said, make a monochrome picture and then place color above, it will make your work easier and faster.
I tried and it is really so.
I do not refuse using other drawing techniques, but that one is a nice addition to my knowledge collection. I take pencil drawing scetch, add shadows and highlights with brush tool (flow parameter set to 30% opacity set to 50%) and then make a few layers with color above it (with the Color option chosen for each layer), using brush again (flow and opacity 100%).
Maybe this technique will be of some use for...

Oh, thank you... but I feel a bit confused. Is drawing in photoshop so special? And what is illustrator best for?

You mean to say all your work is in photoshop not illustrator????

School art

posted on 12th of february, 2009

We've got a small flat and to fit some child's furniture in it my husband and I decided to free some space. The only way to do this in our case was to get rid of the old bookcase and most of books and other stuff that filled it.
The process was like archeology - I discovered lots of things I forgot. Things from my childhood, mostly school period. Including this weird art...
All these whirls, spots and curved lines interlacing all over the sheet of paper have a rather sad story. It's about school, education and boredom...
School was soooo boring to me that most of the time I read something non-schoolish at the lessons. Sometimes I wrote stories and poems. It looked like I'm writing something schoolish and teachers did not realize how far away from their words and tasks I used to...

What is art?

posted on 25th of february, 2009

This question may sound strange, but I really often ask myself - what is really art and what is not? I'll explain my doubts...
Experimenting, finding new ways to express yourself is good. But I think humanity's gone to far on that road. Now everything is called art. Even when someone gives a brush to animal (dog, dolphin, etc.) or puts seamless inkblots on the sheet of paper himself it is called art. Sometimes such seamless inkblot-like pictures sell for millions of dollars, why?
One might say that only pictures made in perfect technique are art, but is that so? Child pictures are not perfect at all, but so charming and emotional they are. And some specific pictures (like ones in medical books) are perfect technically but are they art?

How do you understand what the art is?...

I think that ART is a very big word....
in general each and every creation can be considered as art... especially with the "modern art" kicking in so strongly...
but, in my opinion, art is piece of work that makes you feel something when you look or hear it... whatever makes you feel, think or even just stare for a while... something that will follow you some time after you see or hear it....

very difficult .. Perhaps art is beautiful because it is not definable, parsonale and is different for each

Hi! Beautiful question! I'm illustrator and for me the art is something allows that me to dream. And when I hold in my hand a traditional pencil HB, or paint-brush or a simple colored pastel (gessetto) I feel myself happy.
Emotions, dreams are art for me.
I'm happy for living every moment my life with happiness and art.
