The Heroine     posted on 14th of january, 2010

One of my models is now a real hero! She'll soon be famous county wide.

This is Ginger

Last weekend a friend of mine set out on a mountain bike ride up a desolate county road in the ice and snow. It was a route he takes quite often and it didn't seem to bother him that it was cold because he had just gotten a whole new winter wardrobe to help keep him warm. How lucky that was! The road is a very rough forest service area used mostly by us hikers, cyclists, and some hunters. His wife and I went on a trip to play in the snow and when we returned he still wasn't back. She went looking for him and found him lying near a patch of ice where he had fallen and broken his leg. Ginger had followed him on his ride as she often does. He laid in the cold for 3 hours with Ginger there to keep him company and offer a bit of warmth. She also would run down the road and bark periodically to try and make someone come to his aid. She must have watched a lot of Lassie shows when she was a puppy! She's getting attention like a celebrity now, with an article being written in the local paper. The injured biker is on the mend and very glad she was his companion that day. I also should say that Ginger knows what it's like to be injured and need help. About a year ago she was hit by a car and lost a leg. So, if any buyers need a REAL HEROINE I have one to offer!

Ginger readily accepts all hugs! And I'll bet she's anxious for her cycling buddy to get back out with her! - posted by Noonie on January 19, 2010
What a touching story! I love animal and esp dogs and anytime I read how they love us, I am touched in heart. I am sending a big caress to this wonderful beautiful lovely Ginger - posted by Starblue on January 19, 2010
this is what we call unconditional love. sadly enough , only animals possess such a virtue. i've seen many examples of this in my travels. little broken sparrow crawling on its wing to rescue another just hit by a car. prairie dogs with half their bodies broken by a senseless driver crying for each other as they slowly watch life leaving their broken bodies.

whoever said animals have no feelings, never played or spent quality time with animals .
