Today I've self criticized myself and my work and realised that if I don't follow the following rules my images will be rejected or unsold. no use having a portfolio full of wonderful landscapes, isolated shots etc if they won't sell!
I came up with the following thought .. do not shoot for peets sake ... unless..
1- you really have a good subject
if you know it will sell, if you feel it will look good on a cover of a magazine or a billboard and will catch your eye... don't shoot it.
2 - You are inspired
don't set up your camera on a tripod etc and just chuck anything on a board or what ever is used to get that spanking backdrop if you are uninspired - a) they will not come good - you will work to fast and too bored and b) they will probably be useless anyways
3) you have the time for keywording and submissions
if you don't - leave them - do them when you are free - a lot of thought should go in to keywording. if you do not have the proper keywords - they will not be found - and obviously - will not be sold
4) have good lighting
- if you are a) inspired b) have a good subject - but your lighting is rubbish - do NOT shoot it today!! it will only let you down. think about it - if you think you'll forget the idea - write it down and wait for a sunny day as your images will turn our grey and a lot of time will be wasted.
I think I've wasted loads of time just ignoring the above and shooting for shots sake .. my ranking is low, my sales are low and my images .. well they speak for themselves .. I think I am improving but I have a loooooonng loooong way to go!
please feel free to add to the list to help me and maybe others like me .. :)
hope this helps!! :)) keks
