Happy Birthday To Me!

Today is my birthday!

Who would have thought... 55! Holy smokes! When I think about how quickly time has passed with my life (more behind me than in front) I am just blown away. Being one of the fortunate ones with many, many wonderful memories of being a child, a young adult, a older young adult and now a middle aged young adult... I have so many things to be thankful of.

But life isn't about the past it is about the NOW. As you get older you begin to truly understand the meaning of being in the NOW. Petty issues don't linger as they once did. Those things are now easily (or more so) pushed aside with the recognition that they truly mean nothing. Those things that bring one to anger are recognized as unimportant and... petty. They will be forgotten as having ever happened in a few short weeks.

The happy moments in the NOW are appreciated like a fine wine. You let them linger and savor each and every smile, chuckle and hearty laugh. They are NOW so delicious! I want those events and look for them everywhere. They ARE everywhere.. just have to want them.

Looking at the future is different at this age. Not so many plans for getting ahead, burning the midnight oil for the good of a work place (unless of course you just can't sleep, which is part of this age too). You begin to appreciate the quiet times and plan accordingly. For me I love to get out of town and go to the country and drink in the sound of the birds and the feel of the fog in the early morning hours! I so totally enjoy a nice, ice cold Sam Adams in the hot afternoon (12:30 to be exact!). That is what my planning has become. I find that if you plan to much you begin to lose the NOW. You begin to live in the future!

These are all things I am learning as I try to slow the passing of my life down... way down! I want to enjoy each and every day. To appreciate the life in my life.. I want to be able to say "Today is a good day to die" . Life has been good to me and I have no regrets!
