Shooting In The Streets - My First Editorial Images     posted on 28th of april, 2010

I was on the campus of Kansas State University this past weekend; for an all campus open house. There were fun goings on all over campus and I tried out some street photography, you can see some more of that on my blog.

One of the things that I had planned to try and shoot was a drum corps called The Marching Cobras. I had seen them perform on campus before and was impressed with the group. They are kids from very young grade school age to older teens who live in the Kansas City Mo. area and in addition to drums they dance and to some gymnastics.

I must have shot over 150 pictures of them. I only ended up with about 7 that I really thought were worth keeping. So I submitted those to DT and held my breath.

Today I see that 4 of those have been accepted and 3 were rejected. The 3 that were rejected were done so because of lack of composition. Not surprised as they were shots of the boys doing flips. I had caught them in the air! Yea, there was some motion blur along with the poor composition but for me they were pretty good shots.

All in all I think it was a fairly good day photographically, I learned a lot and got my first editorial images on-line. Now maybe shooting on the streets will come a little easier.

Thanks every one! It was a lot of fun to shoot.

I may get a chance to do some more editorial type stuffs, a large group of bicyclist are coming through town soon. If I'm in town that day I'll try to get some shots.
