Snow settings in the Summer? You may need them in Greece!!!     posted on 24th of june, 2010

Many of us know how tricky it is to photograph snow on sunny days. The bright light and the pure white of the snow can easily through your camera’s auto exposure functions off. Believe it or not, you will be facing the same problem if you happen to be visiting one of the Greek islands in the Cyclades, such as Santorini, Ios, Mykonos etc. The pure white of the traditional

Cycladic homes under the bright Greek summer sun will be causing your camera the same problems as winter snow!!!

If you happen to be visiting the Greek island this summer, here are some tips to be able to capture the pure white colors of these gorgeous homes:

•Try to use a slower ISO speed
•Drop exposure by 1 to 2 stops to avoid the homes showing gray instead of white
•Try bracketing! (almost a must)
•Pay attention to your white balance.

Hope this helps and hope to see you at our beautiful islands this summer.

Wowbagger - I have never tried it with a neutral density filter. I only have a graduated neutral density filter for landscapes. I will try it this summer if we ever get to see summer weather this year! :) - posted by Preckas on June 28, 2010
Very interesting post, and beautiful images. Greece is a great place to make beautiful images but... with the correct tips ;-) - posted by Miele on June 28, 2010
If you're using a DSLR a neutral density filter will also help get control of the bright whites and allow your auto exposure to get a handle on the scene. - posted by Digitalexpressionimages on June 27, 2010

Great shot of the gate, red flowers, blue sky, and white buildings. I haven't been to Santorini or Ios since 1983 but have always wanted to return - fingers crossed for a visit during a late summer/early autumn holiday when your tips will be useful. - posted by Melonstone on June 25, 2010
