198 sales and share some experience

posted on 13th of july, 2010

It is a great pleasure that i have 198 sales now.
I am so glad that the sales is growing up and up.On my first blog "99 sales by now",it was writen on 11th of May,only 2 months ago. That is to say,I made my fisrt 99 sales spending more than 8 months, now only 2 months.I just cant believe this "huge"progress.I am proud of myself ,and proud of Dreamstime.com.
Now ,i will share some of my little experience to you .I hope this will be helpful for you.
Firstly,i think a good camera is needed. I know some blogger in DT saying camera is not important.I will take my shootings for example. The year before last,my camera is a small dc which i thought was not that bad. However when i uploaded my first pics to DT,much most of them were rejected because of the terrible noise or poor lens performance.Of course , i think these pics are good ones till now. I was so depressed that time. Then,i bought a SLR CANON 20D and SIGMA 17-70 MICRO.Now the acceptance of my pics goes quite well and so does the sales.Maybe my thoughts are not right, but i just point out my experience.I insist a SLR is necessary.
Secondly, you must learn the stock images market. Some friends of mine ask me why their sales are so small.Though i think their pics look nice , have appealing appearance and the quantity is considerable. But i compare their pics to the most popular ones on DT.I found that most of their pics have a low market reception. In other words,a nice appearance is not enough. You should know which subjects are pupular .Luckily ,on DT you can easily find those popular photos during 7 days by just click the POPULAR on the home page. Also you can search photos on DT and range them by downloads. You will get how to shoot and what to shoot.By the way,DT encourage you to learn from others. This is helpful.
Thirdly, keywording is another important factor. For example, once i upload a picture of chrysanthemum, and i used " beautiful chrysanthemum" for its name.I though this name is straightforward description. But when I search it on DT,my pics was lost in the ocean of photos of chrysanthemum flowers. Then i changed the name to simply "daisy" which has the same meaning with chrysanthemum. And the views of this pic rised. Why?In my opinion, when some customer need a pic of chrysanthemum,he may use "daisy" or simply use "flower" as his keyword instead of "chrysanthemum" .Beacause these simple general keywords can get much more pics than the complex ones. So,next time when you name your pic,you could try to use this simply words and make a comparison.
Finally, hard working is needed.I have 589 files on line at present, that is much more than most of my friends who joined DT at the same time with me.Once i have spare time,i would go out with my camera and shoot .And since the internet was poor in my college before, i had to input the names, keywords and the description using my cellphone. That is difficult experience .
That is all my worlds, thank you.
I wish every photographer in DT community have a good sale and have a nice dream.
PS: If you happen to be from my motherland China ,you could read my Chinese blogs "http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_4b5adfc50100fu3f.html" I have wrote 6 blogs about selling pics on DT.And you could introduction these blogs to your friends if they are helpful.
