Those beautiful, beautiful mountains...
I have always admired the high mountains. Maybe it's because I live on a flat land and I have to accept the fact that the curvature what we are calling "our highest mountain", is 318 meters high. And I can't show you the pictures, because they are a little bit hard to grasp.
Highest altitudes where I have been are about 1500-1800 metres above sea level (Roman-Kosh in Crimea, Ukraine, and Monte Baldo by the Lake Garda, Italy), and I will never ever forget the feeling of standing on the top of the mountain and looking over majestic mountain peaks and beautiful hillsides. It's just breath-taking beautiful.
I'm not sure if I would like to try mountain climbing on the highest mountains of the Earth, but still those mountains are beautiful to see and photograph.
Here are some photos, that I found on Dreamstime about highest mountains of the world.
5 Highest mountains of the world
Mount Everest, also called Qomolangma Peak, Chajamlangma, or Mount Chomolangma – is the world's highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). Part of the Himalaya range in Asia, it is located on the border between Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, and Tibet, China.
K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth after Mount Everest. With a peak elevation of 8,611 metres (28,251 ft), K2 is part of the Karakoram Range, and is located on the border between the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China, and Gilgit, in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan.
(Couldn't find an image... a little hint for local photographers ;))
Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,586 metres (28,169 ft). Kangchenjunga translated means "The Five Treasures of Snows", as it contains five peaks, four of them over 8,450 metres. The treasures represent the five repositories of God, which are gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy books. Kangchenjunga is called Sewalungma in the local Limbu language, translates as 'Mountain that we offer Greetings to'. Kanchenjunga or Sewalungma is considered sacred in the Kirant religion.
Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain on Earth. In addition to the main summit at 8,516 metres (27,940 ft) above sea level, Lhotse Middle is 8,414 metres and Lhotse Shar is 8,383 metres. It is located at the border between Tibet, China, and the Khumbu region of Nepal.
Makalu in Nepali, is the fifth highest mountain in the world and is located 22 km (14 mi) east of Mount Everest, on the border between Nepal and China. One of the eight-thousanders, Makalu is an isolated peak whose shape is a four-sided pyramid.
Those are top five.
