Tripod Therapy     posted on 28th of august, 2010

I am one of those hypocritical photographers who espouses the good sense of using a tripod to obtain sharp clear stable images, but who also seldom uses one. I realized that one of the reasons I don't use one is that I value flexibility, spontaneity and the ability to move quickly and decisively as the situation may require.

Recently I read an article that helped fill in the other part of the equation as to why I don't often want to use one. I thought that it was a sensible article and one that might resonate with other photographers with a 'tripod aversion'. Here's a link the the article in in its entirety.

Well written article! Thanks for posting it, Don. I am a non-tripod person - which probably shows. I do use all available environmental resting places though - floor, shelves, ledges, chairs... - posted by Amyemilia on August 31, 2010

>Creation stands on its own. Any meaning or value is derived by each viewer solely from within the boundaries of the work itself. Photography, to me, is simply a wonderful method to express that primal desire to reflect and thus express truth or beauty (some say they are the same thing). It also may be simply the desire to convey a profoundly moving effect. To that end, the viewer either 'gets it' . . or is not moved.
