happy, happy day!

posted on 21st of november, 2010

Hi everyone, I've never written a blog article before so I hope you"ll bear with me. I live in the suburbs of a decent sized city but consider myself lucky to have a small area of woods behind my house where once in awhile I get to see turkeys, fox, pheasants, all sorts of small animals. Last winter what I believed to be a coyote showed up. Although I love animals I was a bit nervous and initially tried to think of ways to humanly scare it off. The internet had all kinds of ways, like setting up a recording of bobcat growling, ect,all sorts of nutty ideas. I decided to do nothing and figured it would eventually move on, but had to get some pictures first! Long story short, over the winter it stayed. I saw it so much eventually I was able to sit, shoot away, and it didnt seem to mind my being around. Im actually not sure that it was a coyote. It weighed about 90lbs,ran with its tail straight up,and had a 4 inch paw track. Coyotes are much smaller. Either way I got to really care about it and respect it. Winter was coming to an end,and I kept hearing it howl at night and one day it just didnt show up. I believe it went off to find a mate, I missed it and life goes on. Fast forward to 2 months ago, its back!( or something that looks just like it).Either way, I was thrilled. All was well until last sunday. A neighbor complained and called a local news channel. On the news channels website where all kinds of remarks like "trapper for hire"ect. Then it disappeared. All week long I've kept an eye out for it but nothing. Worse case senerios have been going through my head. I wrote on the newspapers website how we have to respect these animals, and let them live in peace. Walk your dogs on a lease, dont let your cats roam free, the whole bit. Then amazingly this morning I was walking one of my dogs when, not to be disgusting but, there was a big pile of poop in my back yard with all the marking of a wild animal.(you know what i mean) Ther e was hope!, then just a hour ago there she was, walking through the woods. I dont know where she was all week, and if she up and leaves someday thats okay,Im just glad the trappers didnt get her and we get to enjoy her,or him,(not sure which) company a little while longer.

thank you joan, i think its a wolf too. So many people say that there are no wolves around here, including the dept of conservation, but its just too big to be a coyote. I think theyre in more places than alot of people think having less and less of their own habitat. I greatly appreciate your opinion after seeing your wonderful wildlife photos :) thanks again

my friend, the guy on the photo is a wolf, not a coyote, this makes it even much nicer, I love wolfs, you are very lucky! Congrats..

:-) I am happy that she wasn´t caught in the trap as well... I love all animals, but wolves, dogs, cats, coyotes, dolphins are my favorite... I hate when they are hunted or trapped.... it is so cruel! I wish you to live many beautiful stories with animals :-) I wish to us and animals a wonderful peaceful world together!
