Compromises with benefits - Canon S95     posted on 21st of august, 2011

DSLR = quality photos
Point & Shoot = lower quality photos

DSLR = no photos (couldn't bring the camera)
Compact Point & Shoot = some photos (camera in pocket)

Canon S95 = compromise with benefits

-------------------------------------

I recently added a Canon s95 to my kit - too many times that I wanted to take photos, but didn't have the DSLR with me.

The S95 is up there in terms of image quality and manual control - along with Panasonic's Lumix LX5 and the Canon G12. It's 10MP sensor has bowed out of the silly MegaPickle race that most point and shoots are in, and the result is quality photographs under reasonable lighting conditions - good enough for Dreamstime. F/2.0 (wide), plenty of manual control, RAW output, minimal shutter lag.

I would have preferred the Lumix LX5 with a faster lens throughout the zoom range, but it's just too big to fit in the pocket. Compromise with benefits.

This compromise won't lock you up. First S95 images accepted:

Like that :
DSLR = no photos (couldn't bring the camera)
Compact Point & Shoot = some photos (camera in pocket)

This is so true.
Many a times one looses the chance of clicking because there is no camera with us.

It is a very capable little camera. My only beef with it (my brother in law owns one) is that I seem to always have my finger over the flash when it pops up :) - posted by Bradcalkins on August 21, 2011

>26 years ago my photographer aunt gave me my first camera. In fact, I recently scanned those old square negatives to digital.

Now I love taking pictures of kids, who are so much fun. Landscapes are great when I can get out, and macro is a wonderful world of incredible tiny creatures.
