Shooting Tethered On The Cheap

posted on 29th of september, 2011

I've recently started using tethering software for almost all stock photos I shoot. This manner of shooting allows for instant feedback on a large calibrated monitor, rather than the LCD on your DSLR. I have a Macbook Pro and Nikon DSLR's so with other brands YMMV. The two I have tested are StudioTether and Sofortbild. The latter is a much more capable program, enabling time delay, interval shooting and Live View capability. The camera is hooked into the computer via a standard USB cable, which seem to come free with everything these days. The Sofortbild software also responds to the Apple remote; just hit the play button for a cheap remote release.
