Last weekend I found myself in Salem, MA, home of the infamous Salem Witch Trials back in 1692 when this town was a small puritan settlement and the United States wasn't even thought of yet.
Salem goes all out to capitalize on the growing popularity of Halloween and all things ghoulish, scary and creepy.
We checked out the Salem Witch Museum with its historic lessons of tolerance and reminder of the social poison of scapegoating or blaming others (witches, the devil, immigrants, Jews, liberals, gays or whatever is the scapegoat of the moment) for all the ills of society.
Then we checked out the crowds getting into the Halloween spirit.
I snapped a couple of shots of people getting some professional monster make up as part of the Haunted Happenings celebrations.
