Looking For Advise

posted on 15th of december, 2011

Greetings
I am looking for advise from some of you old timers on this site. I joined DT last July and have gone exclusive, with 72 images on line and 10 sales. For stock, is it better to specialize in a few areas of subject matter or spread yourself out. My non-stock photography has always been rather eclectic but when I look at my uploads on DT it reminds me of the proverbial “dogs breakfast”!
And thank you for all the warm welcomes!
Cheers
Ken

As more diverse you can be is better.

I don't think there's a rule. Some people do really well on a niche / favourite subject, some are very diversified. You'll probably do better at what you really enjoy photographing and are naturally good at so you can go that way, whilst keeping your eyes open and try to improve little by little subjects that don't come to you naturally.

I would say both. Over time some trends seem to appear for people. What works for you and what doesn't. The things you enjoy shooting and those you do not. Good Luck !

Why to restrict yourself? Diversify as much as you can, it is good for sales.

I've been reading the DT blogs for a while and almost all contributors says the diversity it's good, it's necessary.
