Yeah, it might be a little late for Christmas but new stuff is always a present. For many years, I've done my photography with an on camera flash, kit lens 18-55 mm, and for most of the time available light.
Now that I'm shooting commercial images rather than artistic shots, I've made the important decision to invest in my equipment. Within the next few days I'll be receiving a studio light and umbrella kit and and camera flash.
Once I get a little cash saved I'll be investing in some prime lenses and backdrop system. While I know that all new gadgets don't make a good image, good lighting and sharp pictures help.
So merry late Christmas to me.
Happy shooting everyone.

The speedlight came this morning. I'm surprised it came so soon. I thought it would be here on Monday. Excitement once again!

:Di remember, i try to take shots in apartments, when i was young ( approx 13 - 14, in soviet union ), then i have a 24 x 36 fathers SLR Zenit-3m, and for lighting i use two bulbs from diesel locomotive ( 110 volt, 500w ) in serial wire. light amount be impressively large :) wish you good luck with new equipment. i not have a study for that stationary lighting equipment on one side, and on others - i prefer outdoor ;)

Drago- I bought a YN460-II Hot shoe Flash Speedlight W/ Wireless Trigger from eBay. The camera I'm using is a Canon 450D.rnrnToday the continuous lighting system came (oh boy!). Two large stands, one medium stand, two umbrellas, and three daylight 5500K lights. Can't wait to use them! Mary your right, anticipation is the best.

Smart move Mark, for sure lighting is very important since the theory also said no light on picture. No matter continues light or flash. Sometime you can consider those small little light (flashgun) as they all come with trigger system now. All my picture and work are done with it, no more wire trouble, portable and low budget. The best is AAA battery. Saving!! All the best on your work.
