500 images, $5000 and moving on...

>Today I finally hit the 500 image mark. Not a large portfolio, not a small one either, but somewhere in that happy middle ground. And, unless something goes horribly awry, I should be hitting the $5000 revenue mark in the middle of this month. Thanks to DT for the stellar work in keeping my portfolio selling despite a 6 month upload hiatus!
A month from now I'll be moving 8000km away from Hong Kong, to Alaska. Even though it'll only be for 8 months, its churned a smothered fire inside of me and ignited a renewed visual passion for the country I call my second home. Places I've gone to for years on end but never taken my camera with me, I've started to make images of. Honestly they were not taken with the intent to sell as stock images on DT, but more for printing A3 matte's of and taking with me, to look at on cold dark days and times of yearning. But some of these will be uploaded in the upcoming weeks anyways.
This is one of those things. Its a place on the southern tip of Kowloon. A melting pot of Hong Kong, with dozens of nationalities to be found, and by far some of the best Indian and African food in the country. Its not the safest of places; it's had a long history of drugs, violence and triad activity... but the curries there are worth the trip once a week.
And this, the ever-so-prominent flagship Apple Store in Hong Kong. Nestled at the foot of the International Finance Center, it's a short walk from the central metro station and from the ferry terminal. It's where I got my first iPhone. Along the walkway going from the ferry terminals to the metro station is this beautiful view. And, if you catch it at the right time in the afternoon, you'll be able to use a longer exposure like this and capture the essence of Apple's creativity and beauty.
Some places, like this one, aren't finished yet. A construction site for a new high speed rail station that will link Hong Kong to Guangzhou. Two of the biggest financial and economic centers in Asia, and the world. By the time I return to this place, it will probably be finished. It is simply amazing how quickly things change in progressive cities and countries like Hong Kong.
Other places, such as this one. A short weekend getaway from home. Only one hour by ferry to the Special Administrative Region of Macau. The world's gambling capital (it surpasses Las Vegas several years ago) and a world-class entertainment hub, with superb shows and concerts.
I guess one of the things that will be most missed from Hong Kong is the skyline. One of the most iconic in the world, and constantly changing, with more high rise buildings being constructed and a new waterfront promenade in the works (to be completed in 2013). Its a beautiful site to behold, even to someone who has been living here for years.
And then there are the local delights. Places like this one, which are usually flooded with tourists and locals alike, but on rainy days, early in the morning, you can witness the true beauty of such places. Sadly, the market burned down several months ago, killing 9 people and scorching several buildings. It has since been reconstructed with better safety measures in mind, and is still just as beautiful.
Then there is the food... It may not look pretty, but it tastes fantastic!
I'll leave the end of this blog post to this image. En route to a new beginning...
