Today I signed in to my profile and here it was looking at me ...
"magical 100" in the uploads. That has made my day to finally cross to three digit number. Also image which pushed me over the top has symbolic 2013 (New Year illustration), so I take it as a good sign for me to carry on in the stock photography.
What a journey, since becoming member last year. I know, still a newbie, a bit slow .... hey but learning :)
I've heard about stock a few years ago, since then I've been sometimes remembering about it, but never got myself to check it out. Then finally I read good article on stock photography in one photo magazine I borrowed from friend of mine. And I thought to myself.... how long are you going to put it away? Give it a try!
So I opened account here, read articles, blogs, watched successful photos, ... well doing some education. Test uploaded 3 photos, got 2 accepted. And for sure, I was hooked! Then came many rejections, lots of frustration and really time to learn. First I realized, technical quality will be my nightmare. Changing a few cameras through past years, but never having dslr ... now I see, it was a mistake. Nowadays, in the age of 20, 30 mega sensors your old photos are no good and what could be accepted in 2006 is not gonna take me anywhere.
That made my fast forward through the photos till first reasonable camera. Second step, ... What is good as stock photo? What would buyers want? Fast forward again .... now, small selection of old images done, technically good, keywords done, acceptance ratio slowly improving :)
Ok, so got a sample of what is stock photography, how much effort it takes ... but also how rewarding it is in sense of learning (thanks to Dreamstime and DT Community), how motivating is being rewarded for trying to improve (sales).
Although it's a beginning, I'm happy to stay with stock photography now. First 100 images (checked), new camera (checked), new lenses (checked), new objectives (checked) ...
Now, I'm ready for my 100 sales, 1000 images and especially good times taking photos.
Thanks for taking time to read :)
