After last month’s disappointments, March has been rather good. Starting off with the Vicious Kittens calendar shoot in my studio. VK is web page set up by Pixie Suicide A group of Alternative female models handpicked for their beauty and individuality, I had worked with most of the models before, but also had assistance from Kim who is doing her degree in photography.
The theme was “cyber”, so plenty of bright colours, I set up the “operating table” and the girls took turns in being the patient… I was very pleased with the images, it had been a very long day, but worth it.
My DG photographic polo shirt is starting to look a bit faded, so before ordering some replacements I thought it would be good to come up with a new logo, this also doubles as a watermark on my images on line.
I have been booked to photograph a 21st birthday party in a couple of months, so hope the good weather continues, or set up my portable lights!
Uploaded some more stock images to Dreamstime, and sold some of them almost at once…… then nothing ?
With the arrival of some warmer weather the garden had to be tackled, grass cut, furniture painted/stained and shrubs cut back. Planted some new herbs to replace the ones lost over the winter, that corner of the garden is a real sun trap, and my little haven of tranquillity.
Kim, who shot with me on the VK shoot joined me for another shoot, this time on the other side of the camera, Again the weather was warm and sunny and suited the “Daisy Duke” theme, we used to old control tower and drop tanks at the former USAF Greenham common airfield. Back to the studio for a change of look and some more photos…. Some great photos.
My daughter’s friend wanted a photographer to capture some of the atmosphere at her part at a local bar, after a 12 hour shift at my full time job I popped along ….. It was hard work, the music was very loud so my usual method of saying “get in close and give me a big smile” didn’t work.. So it had to be lots of miming and reportage shots as it turned out the pictures were very good given the dirty yellow walls and only using my on camera flash gun.
Three bands in three nights… Wednesday was Larry Miller at the newly formed “Newbury Rock and Blues” club at Newbury football club… the room was about half full…a pity as Larry deserved a much bigger audience He rocked through his set the lights had been set up behind the band this made photographing them a bit of a pain, managed to get some OK shots by shooting from the side of the stage.
Thursday was “Fragile” a Yes tribute band who played at Speen church as a warm gig for their “Purple wolfhound” tour, an excellent set and the acoustics in the church were very good, the lighting again was challenging, a very bright projector at the singers feet and 6 rapidly changing spots either side. Managed to get some good shots but they were a bit noisy at ISO 2000 1/100 @ f/1.8.
Friday was at the Monument in Newbury, the Jaw breakers were playing their mix of blues/ rock/ jazz… a great set enjoyed by the busy pub. The lighting in the monnie comprises of two LED spots either side of the playing area , shooting at 5fps can result in 5 different coloured images, so I used by flash gun again. Was good to catch up with some old friends and have a natter.
