Maybe for many of my fellow photographers 1000 images is already a milestone of the past. It is for me now as well. It is however an important milestone as it took me about 8 years to reach it. According to my current production rates, it will take about the same amount to double my portfolio size.
1000 images in my portfolio does not necessary mean 1000 images are available for sale. About 80 images (8%) among these are distributed through the free section. This percentage went lower during last year after it peaked around 10%. I am constantly deleting or sending to the free section images which I believe are not representative for my portfolio anymore and their earning power is low.
Additionaly, 210 images are distributed exclusivly through Dreamstime (21% of my portfolio). I am constantly optimizing my portfolio distribution beetween the 4 micro-stock agencies that I am working with, and this percentage is bound to rise during the next years.
On dreamstime, I have the biggest number of images. It is probably due to the fact that is my home agency, where my microstock adventure started. About half of my portfolio dates from my first 4 years here, when I was submitting almost anything. I was experimenting. In the past 4 years, I have focused mostly on travel images, what I like to do most. I also like to shoot macro images of flowers and plants, but my portfolio of this type of images is still not well developed.
I aim a production rate of 10 per month for the short term at least. I am not a full time photographer, and I do not believe I would like to be in the near future. As I enjoy occupying my free time with photography, my production rate is proportional with my free time. I currently travel more than I can process and upload with a backlog of images to process going back in time about 1 year. This allows me to be very selective with the images I upload and I believe is the key for having a high RPI (royalty per image).
Here are some of my latest images:
Some are from very recent travels, like the Lisbon, Portugal images. The Florence's skyline is a image taken during the last Easter vacation, while the moon shot is taken about a month ago. I have recently brought a telescope for astro-photography and learining how to take this kind of images is currently my major activity in my free time. Expect some deep-sky images in the near future.
I hope I will manage to double my portofolio in a shorter time span than 8 years and I hope dreamstime manages to keep increasing the RPI as they did in the past. I appreciate any feedback on my portolio from fellow photographers and any requests from the buying customers.
