I've been a photography enthusiast for decades and have seen photography advance over the years. However with the launch of Nokia's 808 Pureview smartphone, photography is going to be changed forever. Anyone that has studied photography would have came across the example of what would be an ideal camera system. That would be a system of a distortion free wide angle prime lens system with a huge resolution format film or sensor. Why is this ideal? You can capture the entire scene at wide angle and then decide at a later time what you want to crop for composition. This would enable you to capture everything first and then decide. This would also eliminate the need for telephoto lenses. Of course the limitation with this thinking was the performance and quality of the image would drop significantly in terms of noise and sharpness because the technology didn't allow for this. This is where Nokia's 808 Pureview camera... I mean smartphone comes in. With it's large 41 megapixel sensor, Nokia is doing just that in a very compact and small package. I miss a lot of stock photo moments because I don't lug my Canon SLR or even my Sony NEX 4/3 camera around with me everywhere. Is this the answer? Will it give us stock photographers the quality that we need for submission? I don't currently have one but serious looking into the possibility. My iPhone photos are no where close to being acceptable. Has anyone already had experience with this camera? Please share. I look forward to hearing what others are hearing and experiencing with Nokia's 808.
Below is a video hands-on preview of Nokia's 808. Quite impressive.
