I just traded in some older equipment for this lens. I haven't tested it too much yet, but am thrilled with my early results. Whether or not it is worth buying really depends on your needs and budget. I plan to use it for a little headshot business I have. I use fixed focal lengths for my headshots, as I like the sharpest eyes possible, and the highest quality image. My 105 was too long at times, thus I went with the 85, known to be a great portrait lens. So, for me, it was worth trading in older equipment I wasn't using for something I would use. If it helps in your decision, my friends who shoot weddings say it is a "killer" lens.
