Why Donating Your Images

Hi all,

As I'm starting my fifth year here in DT I started getting automated messages from admins regarding old images.
The message indicated that I have an image which is online for 4 years now and have no sales.
DT suggests 3 actions you can take, re-keywording the image, donate it or disable it.

I can truly say that I have some old images that today I wouldn't upload, or maybe change them a bit befire uploading.
It mostly relevant for image processing (which my abilities have drastically improved during those last 4 years) and composition.

My decision was to donate them, and apparently - it pays!! :)
Just 2 hours after donating this image:

I can honestly say that this image is not one of my best and probably if I had to decide today I wouldn't even upload it.
So It was a very easy desicion to donate it.

2 hours after donating this image I had 2 sales of images which are online for almost 2 years and haven't sold yet:

So, bottom line, my suggestion to you - don't be afraid of daonating old, non selling images.
If they haven't sold for that long they would probably never sell, but (and that's a big but), donating these images can sell other related images you might have.

By donating your old images you increase the exposure of your portfolio which can of course leas for sales.

	Posted by Fernley on October 08, 2012 I donated a half-dozen images that had no sales after 4 years. Those images, now free, were then downloaded several times. My paid downloads did not increase. Since then I've opted to disable the files.

	Posted by Yelo34 on September 21, 2012 I donated some images here on DT and now I found them for free in many sites I don't even contribute to (probably partners). I will donate only those images that in addition do not have sales in other sites. I am not exclusive and many images that do not sell on DT, sell in other places so be aware!

	Posted by Montylola on September 18, 2012 I have an image online that just sat there for 4 years nearly and now it has licenced 3 times and been viewed more than 1200. My advice would be to think very carefully about donating, the few cents it costs for rekeywording could be a very good investment! One of my images is in donating and within a couple of days of becoming FREE it was downloaded over 10 times and up to 20. I never noticed any appreciable increase in sales by donating. David May
