My 300th Sale :) & Keeping Track

posted on 19th of september, 2012

I haven't checked my stats in a while and went on today and saw that I just made my 300th sale. Right on the nose. It was this photo which just made Level 4:

This summer, I caught up on a project I started ages ago, making contact sheets from my various shoots and keeping track of which images sell best - and where different images sell best.

This image, and a group of similar backgrounds I shot with my lensbaby when I first got it, have been big sellers for me here on Dreamstime and elsewhere. Though hitting Level 4 is much easier than it used to be, I was glad to see it. Here are two others from that shoot: I thought they were all doing well and my tracking confirmed it. I've sold them more on another site, but made more on them here, which surprised me.

The one that's the same photo without the hand-drawn heart was one of my first Level 5's. It's had twice as many views as the one with the heart and it's sold more than 3.5 times as often. More useful for designers I guess.

This one, which I digitally altered from the original background so it's very different, though in the same color scheme, is also a Level 5. It is a DT exclusive, has less than half the views of the plain background, and fewer views than the one with the heart, but it's sold nearly the same number of times as the original background. I like that DT lets you make certain photos exclusive. Even with my tiny port (124 images) I can see the difference it makes. That and the Levels really boost sales.

Other recent sales include another heart/Valentine themed photo (shows holiday pix sell any time of year): I think it's a much better photo that the simple backgrounds, but it's only a Level 1. Then again, I put in online pretty recently and it's a long way from Valentine's Day! Although I sold some Christmas photos this summer though too: They are Level 3 and Level 4 photos. Hoping the hearts in the champagne glass catch up as the winter and Valentine's Day approach :)

I really like that such diverse photos do well here. Some other recent sales include this editorial images and this summery nautical one: This is my number one seller on another site and I've seen it a lot on the web. I almost didn't upload it anywhere feeling the colors weren't quite what I was aiming for, but I'm glad I did.
